Ch. 7- The Beginning of The End

It’s still hard to think about everything that’s happened lately. There’s Spencer coming to the same city as me, not to mention the same job. Now, we are eve living together. Then there’s me getting framed by Aiden and him going to jail after the cops found out it was his fault. More recently, however, Spencer and I have been getting closer. We went to the movies, and even went on a normal date that didn’t include getting arrested. I would have said everything was starting to look like it was going to be good, but then today happened. It started out like any other day would have. I went to the store and bought some groceries. When I got back home I watched TV for about an hour until Spencer got home from the gym. I told her that we would eat at 6PM, which was in an hour. The time past slowly until it was time for dinner. That was when I learned something I probably shouldn’t have.

I had been wanting to know what had happened to the rest of Spencer’s family ever since she had first talked to me, but every time I tried to ask, she would tear up or change the subject. I had learned that it was probably best to leave the subject for now. However, I decided now would be a good time to try and get her to talk, so I started the conversation.

“So, how was your day?” I asked Spencer.

“It was all right. I was able to get a good workout in at the gym.” Damn, I need to find a way to switch the subject onto her family, and she isn’t helping.

“Have you ever seen that episode of ER with the guy who was impaled with a pole?” I asked trying to switch the subject onto doctors. Maybe it would change to her mom, who was a doctor.

“No,” she answered blankly. Damnit, this wasn’t going anywhere. Then I decided to try a more blunt approach.

“That would be funny if your mom was on ER.” I knew what I had said sounded stupid, but at least now I knew the subject would be about her mom.
