    Stormy Horizons – (Chapter: Exploration)

    Ch. 5- Exploration

I’d spent all say over at Ashley’s house. We had watched The first half of season 1 of the L-word. I wasn’t paying attention to the TV, however. I was using the distraction to glance over at Ashley. Looking he body up and down was becoming a habit for me. I would’ve spent more time over there too, but at around 8pm my cell rang. “Hello?” I asked annoyed at the interruption of my Ashley gazing.

“Hey Spencer,” it was my dad, “Could you come home please. Glen told us you were going to be gone, but I didn’t think this long. We will be having dinner at 7:30, be home by then.” I glanced over at the clock, it was 7:00 already. I barely had time to get home! It would take about 10 minutes just to drive there, so this episode better wrap up fast.

“Alright, dad, I’ll be home for dinner. Bye.”

“Bye, sweetheart.” then he hung up. I did the same a few seconds after.

“What was that all about?” Ashley asked.

“Dinner with the family.” I responded with an annoyed look.

“Ouch, that’s one positive to having a mom who’s always away: no family dinners.”

“Yea, but hey I need you to drive me home.”

“Alright,” she stated, getting out of the couch to grab her keys. Fifteen minutes later we pulled in front of my house. Once I had gotten out of the car she talked for the first time since we began driving, “Will you need a ride to school next week, when you start?”

“Sure,” I responded, smiling with a brilliant smile. I was walking towards my door and right when I was about to pull the handle and walk in, I did something I would be doing a lot of in the future. I stopped, turned around to face Ashley, and smiled, before proceeding in to my house.

Stepping in to my house several people began talking at once. My parents both said “Where have you been?” Glen said “Damn it Spencer, don’t go running off like that?” and Clay said “We were worrying about you what happened?” Taken back by all the questions at once, I stood there motionless. I decided to try and answer all of them at once.
