    What Might Have Been 12

“We have to honor her.” Bette says through tears.

“Of course we do, Bette, but how do you honor someone as special as she was?” Tina asked.

The friends are sitting around the table at the Planet in shock of the passing of their close friend. It seemed to happen so fast. Just seems like yesterday they found out about her illness and today they are preparing for her departure from this world. It didn’t seem fair.

“Has anyone seen Lara or Alice?” Bette inquired.

“Not since we left the hospital yesterday.” Shane responded.

“T, could you take Angelica, I am worried about those two. Shane you go try to locate Lara, and I will go to Alice‘s place. Neither of them needs to be alone at a time like this.” Bette leaned down and kissed her daughter on the top of her head and kissed Tina before she walked out of the door.

                “I love you, Bette.”

                “I love you too, T.”

Walking out in the California sunshine Bette just could not stop thinking of how she and Dana met. It was through Alice of course. All the friends from this group had some kind of link to Alice. The thought of the first meeting brought a smile to Bette’s face.

“Al, why do you do this on such short notice? I just worked all day and was looking forward to crawling in to bed. I don’t even LIKE tennis.”

“She is new to the city, Bette. I ran into her at the coffee house. She is fun, I think you will like her. Come on, Bette just meet her.”

                “Is she even gay?”

“Yes, but she hasn’t come out, she is afraid it will ruin her career.”

“Oh God, not one of them, Al I am just not sure I am up to this.”

                “Bette, pleaaase!”

“Look, I know that we are seeing other people so tell me if she is someone you are interested in so I can prepare myself.”

“Like you told me you liked the little blonde?” Alice asked.
