    “Yea, I actually have not dated anyone. The funny thing is Helena Peabody keeps hitting on me. It is weird. The woman that Tina fucked during our first break up wants to date me. I am telling this to the woman I fucked before my first break up with Tina. Not to mention, Tina’s latest lover is a male.”

                “Whoa! What?” Candace exclaimed.

     

                ” I suspect that I should start from the beginning.”

    Bette stated.

     

                “That would be nice, why didn’t you ever call me, Bette?” Candace asked quietly.

     

                “Candace, it was not anything you did. I wanted Tina. I loved Tina. You were great. We had a great time. But Tina was the one I wanted to spend my life with. I did not want to call you on the rebound. You deserve more than that. You are a great person. I wasn’t ready to move on.”

     

                “Are you now?” Candace asked as she nervously bit her lower lip.

     

                “Honestly, No. I want to spend what little spare time I have with my angel.” Bette glanced at the sleeping child. “She is the lady of my life right now. Helena has asked me out and now you are hinting towards that. I just am not ready. I screwed up and I have to forgive myself. I know that I did not cause this rift.”

     

                “Bettedo you remember what I said to you that night in your office?”

     

                “Yes of course I do. You told me you wanted to kiss me all night. Candace, I enjoyed our time together and perhaps another time and place we would have worked. This is nothing personal. It has to do with me. It is all about me. I want to concentrate on my daughter. I would like for us to be friends. Is that something we could do?”

     

                “Of course Bette. Thank you for your honesty. Now about this gallery. Tell me what you want.”

     

                Candace and Bette continued discussing the gallery well into the night. Finally Bette looked at her watch. “Candace, I should get this little bundle home in her own bed. When do you want to begin this project?”
