“So was that Carmen on the phone?”

Alice jumped a mile, putting her had on her chest. “Can you sneak up any quieter?”

Helena laughed. “I’m good at stealth.”

“Yeah I know that, and I think my poor heart does too”. Alice laughed. “Carmen is good, she is really enjoying herself out there. But she hates the cold.”

Smiling Helena replied “She will get used to it.”

“She has also extended her contract by 6months.”

“That’s awesome she must be really bringing in the crowds. What else did you guys talk about?”

“The usual, work, LA, you guys” Alice paused “Shane”.

“Ah, did you tell her about the other day?”

“Yeah, she was shocked at first but she was totally fine with it, well as fine as she could be.”

“That’s good and I bet she told you to go and talk to her didn’t she?”

Alice’s mouth dropped open “How did you know?”

“Because I have been telling you too do the exact same thing.”

“I know”

“But you still haven’t.”

“Give me a break Helena” Alice shouted, loosing her cool. “She knows where I live, she has my number, and she hasn’t got in touch”.

“I know, but I think she is too scared to.”

Alice frowned “Have you and Carmen been talking to the same person?”

“Huh?” Helena replied confused.

“Never mind, look I’m going to go out. I will be back later”. Grabbing her keys off of the table Alice made her way out to her car.

Alice drove around going over in her head the conversation she had had with Carmen and with Helena. So she was not surprised when she found herself outside of a house she had only seen once.

“Okay, here goes” She took a deep breath as she walked up the garden path. Knocking on the door she was met by silence, trying again she was met by the same results. Sighing half with relief and half with annoyance she turned around and walked along the path to her car.

“She won’t be long dear” Alice spun around, not knowing where the voice had come from. “Over here”.

Alice turned to the house next door to see an elderly woman cutting her hedges. She walked over to her. “So will she be back soon?”
