The Absence of One chapter 14
As Monday morning came around, Bette found herself unsettled to the point of distraction while at work. She shook away the thoughts, knowing her meeting with Phyllis required her full attention.
“I’m sorry, Phyllis, what were you saying about this afternoon?”
The woman smiled at Bette. She had yet to break the news about the upcoming meeting. “I’m gonna need you to take a potential donor on a tour of the art department.”
“Today?” Bette mentally reviewed her schedule for the day.
“Right after lunch, actually,” Phyllis replied. “I had your assistant clear your afternoon.”
“I thought that was a meeting to go over the first quarter report with you.”
Her boss smirked, knowing this was one assignment anyone lesser would trip over their feet to accept. “That’s tomorrow.”
She tried not to let her frown show, but to no avail. “So who’s the big shot?”
Phyllis smiled as she sat closer to Bette. “It’s someone you know. Barbara Grisham.”
“Senator Grisham?” Bette was pleasantly surprised. “The Senator Grisham who just lost her third term to some arrogant baboon walking with a cane?”
“The one and only. Is there a problem? I thought she was a big fan of yours, after the speech you made at the hearing.”
“I… yeah, she’s a supporter of the arts,” Bette offered nervously. “I’m surprised the media didn’t make a big deal out of her visit.”
“LA Times did a piece,” Phyllis mentioned. “She told the reporter she was considering a venture into the arts.”
“Huh,” Bette was curious. “Through donations?”
“I guess. That’s your job to find out, Bette,” Phyllis stood up from her seat. “I expect to hear good news from you.”
Bette nodded. When she accepted this job, she knew part of it would include raising money for the department. She chuckled at the turn of events, tackling the paperwork on her desk with a vengeance.
When lunchtime rolled around, Bette was aching with anticipation. She left word with her assistant James, reminding him of the reviewed schedule for Wednesday before making her way to the Planet.
“Bette,” Kit called out to her just as she exited her car.

Nothing like a little competition to make things interesting. I didn’t expect smooth sailing, so bring it on, Barbara! Great update, sky. Thanks
BB!! (Bette n Barbara)That is a HOT idea! I love both ladies… and the flirting is so sexy! I love how Barb chases Bette and Bette just seems to play hard to get or seems unsure of herself or what to do with Barbara. It’s hot and cute at the same time. I definitely want to see where you take this story…even if they don’t end up together. I’d be happy with a hot and sexy one night stand with these two ladies. =) Please, continue soon.
B&B together is just HOT!!!!! This is going to get really good I hope. Thanks PPS
Now don’t let that Barbara woman step inbetween B&T. They are at least on the same road and they do not need any deviations while traveling on that road.
Damn trouble coming!
nice! p.p.s.
Yea!! A story w/Bette and The Senator. They did generate some serious heat on TLW. I really enjoyed pancha305’s story w/Bette and The Senator. I thought that was a lost opportunity on the show. Two actresses that can act and were a match for each other. Could have been all kinds of hot. I just have to be happy w/fanfic. PPS.
