    Bette

Driving towards her house, knowing it was over an hour’s drive, Bette was thinking that so many things could happen in that hour.  The brakes giving out, running out of gas, a ten-car pileup on the….

“Ok, I am being rather foreboding in my thoughts,” stated Bette, and that’s when the tire of her car blew out.

Almost panicking, Bette pulled the wheel hard to the right, feeling the rim grinding into the pavement.  Tossing a stricken glance at her side mirror and seeing the arch of sparks trailing behind her passenger side, Bette pulled over onto the hard shoulder of the road.

Bette finally stopped the car, slamming it into park, hands white knuckled on the steering wheel, “That will teach me to be foreboding and musing out loud.”

Releasing her hands from the steering wheel, her whole body was shaking; she undid the seatbelt and pushed her way out of the car.  “Well, I’ll just have to call Tina and have….”

Then the reality hit her, there was no Tina at home, ready to get a tow truck over to her at a moments notice, Tina was at Alice’s.  “I can call a tow truck myself,” said Bette to the heavy morning air.

Reaching into the car, grabbing her spilled purse and searching for her cell phone, not finding it, she crawled into the car and spotted it on the floor of the passenger’s seat.  Picking the phone up gingerly from the floor, the joint of the flip phone was broken, dangling comically from one frayed wire, “Well fuck me.”

Her anger brewed over and Bette threw the phone at the dashboard, a rage flooded over her and she let out a scream, there were no words, just a scream.

God was playing a sick joke on her today, yesterday, and the day before.  God had been wrecking havoc on Bette Porter’s life a lot lately.  Tears sprung to her ebony eyes; taking a shaking breath, “I’m an Ivy League graduate; I can most certainly change a tire on a car.”

    1. And sometimes a blown tire is only a flat. :) Can never feel too sure, though, when you are the author. HEY–was there something there about slashed tires? Am I looking for demons when there are none? Anyway, thanks for tackling the FF challenge.

    2. Hey there JR!!! Well the score is…….. Alright, I won’t tell you. Bette getting a flat was probably good for her. She had someone to vent to, and maybe someone to call on in the future, now that she knows where to find her. Great chapter, woman. Enjoy watching the game tomorrow.

    3. Hello tJR, this story is so good, can you say serendipity, it is always funny how much harder it is to deal with the small “real” life situations when your life is coming apart at the seams, this is freaking great *Sweet Christmas* as the Luke would say. Rock on. Sincerely, JC

    4. When thing goes wong as they some time do, Stop but do quit, Bette needs to stop and think that Tina lost the child. and Bette went hunting for one simple reason .She forgot how to talk to Tina. Simple things are easy to solve sometime. Yet the hardest to get through. Thanks bvh

    5. Just think, this wholemess over the past 3 seasons could have completely been avoided if they had just talked the day after Provocations and been truly honest with each other. What am I saying…I.C. must have her drama!
