Chapter 6

Over the last several hours, Bette had come to grips with her new found identity.  She couldn’t explain the emotion and excitement that was growing inside of her.  She longed to see Tina and hold her in her arms.  She had dreamed of this woman for almost 6 months.  Today she would meet her again.  Whether her memory returned or not, she knew that today she was being reunited with her one true love, her soul mate.

For this reason, Bette has insisted that they go to the airport to meet them.  She had waited 6 months.  She couldn’t wait any longer.  So now, Bette was pacing back and forth at the airport as Peggy and Dr. Roberts watch in amusement. 

Peggy smiled at Bette, “you are going to wear a hole in that floor if you don’t sit down.”

“Peggy, when are they going to get here?  Shouldn’t they have been here by now?”  As if on cue, the Peabody jet taxied up to the gate. 

Bette froze.  Peggy stepped up beside her and put her arm around her and smiled “glad to see you stopped pacing dear.  Now wipe that funny look off your face and get ready to meet the woman of your dreams.”

Inside the jet, Tina was looking anxious.  “Helena what if she doesn’t recognize me?  What if…”

“Tina! Stop.  This is Bette.  The woman you have loved for years. Now let’s get off this jet and go meet our family.”  With one last hug, they disembarked from the jet.

Bette tried to go out to the flight line but was stopped by security.  Peggy had arranged for them to delay the trip through customs until Bette and Tina could be reunited.  Bette stood with her eyes glued to the gate door and then…there she was…the woman of her dreams.  Their eyes locked and the smile that lit both of their faces could have lit the world.  Bette was hesitant at first but when she heard Tina call her name she just ran into her open arms. 

They both were overcome with emotion.  The emotions overflowed to the three women watching this reunion as well.  Tears flowed freely down all the women’s faces.  Peggy finally walked over to Tina and Bette.  She gently placed her hands on their backs and quietly said “I think we need to move this party to a more private place.  Let’s go back to my suite where we can talk in private.”
