    Maybe This Time

    Chapter Three: Tee

“Elijah, dinner is ready!” Tina called out.

“Yep, I’m coming!” He told his mother. Tina placed the pots and pans on the table and Elijah rolled through the door and went to the table. “Mmm, smells delicious, Mom.” He says and grins.

“I hope it tastes as good as it smells.” Tina told her son.

“Sure it will.” He told her and took some food. Together they ate.

“So, Eli, tell me a bit more about your first day then: ‘It was fine.’” Tina said.

Elijah chuckled. “Okay, then. The kids in my class are nice and the teachers seem okay to. I mean, no one seemed to really care that I am in a wheelchair, which is  great. I don’t want to go through what I had to go through last year. This one guy is the coolest I think… Sterling Madden. We share the same interests and he was just very friendly. Then there is this girl in my class… Michaela Jordan. She is nice to and she is very good looking so, I hope that I can get her to date me but she probably doesn’t want to… There are much better…” He was interrupted by his mother.

“Stop it right there. Don’t begin to talk about that she wouldn’t want you because you are in a wheelchair. That isn’t true. You are a very good looking boy with a great heart. There is no reason on earth why a girl wouldn’t want you, so stop putting yourself down.” Tina told her son. He always did that. Elijah looked at his mother and sighed.

“But it’s true Mom. I mean, how will I ever have a normal life? How can a girl ever be interested in me? Look at me; I can’t even take the stairs.” He said.

“That’s the reason? You can’t do stairs? That’s why girls wouldn’t want to date you? That’s not true, that total bs and you know it. There is someone out there for everyone, including you.” Tina told her son and reached out for his hand. “It’ll be alright, okay? You’ll live your life like everyone else, you are just slightly different. There will be someone that loves you for whom you are and won’t care that you can’t walk. Believe me.”
