“right…sorry…” she apologized “…so um…when can you start cheerleading again?” she asked

“um…I don’t know, they say it’s like average of six months of physical therapy, so I have a while…”

“are you still captain?” she asked

“according to Madison…yes…I don’t know though…”

“don’t you want to cheer on your boyfriend? I mean lets face it…Aiden’s taking them to states this year…” she said

“I wouldn’t know, I haven’t seen him play in what seems like forever…” I told her “…I kind of miss cheering though, like being peppy and I thought I looked pretty good in the uniform…” I told her making her laugh

“yeah I’m not gonna lie…you could pull off that uniform really well…” she told me

“wow…now I’m nervous to cheer knowing I have to look good for you…”

“don’t look good for me…look good for Aiden, but not too good…he can’t be too distracted” she told me

“yeah…I don’t think I’m that distracting…”

“you are…you know it too…but how are you two?” she asked

“good I guess…he apologized, and we like started over…I told him if he kept bringing up something I don’t remember then it was over…”

“ooh threatening him now?”

“just a little…” I told her laughing then I got a text on my phone

[hey gurl…new routine 4 the song, maneater or cyclone?] Madison texted

“who is it?” Spencer asked

“ugh…madison, we need a new song for the routine…”

[maneater…] I told her

[saweet!] she sent back then I put my phone back in my purse

“so…this weekend…” I said to Spencer

“what about it?” she asked

“well since you said ‘yes’ and we’re spending the whole weekend together…” I started then I looked at her and she said nothing “…ok, look if you don’t want to…you don’t have to come over…I’m not…”

“Ashley…I want to come over…trust me…it’s just, I don’t want to have like Aiden distractions or any of that…”

“ok fine…there wont be…Spencer I want you this weekend ok? no one else.” I told her “can you like smile…please…” I begged her and a smiled spread across her face

So…after we went out to lunch, we finished classes and then I went to cheer practice after school and Spencer and I were texting each other

“Ashley…could you maybe pay attention for five seconds and stop with the dirty texting with Aiden…” Madison told me sitting down laughing

“…it’s not Aiden…” I told her

“ooh…do tell, new guy?” she asked

“uhm…something like that…” I responded

The thing people forget is how good it can feel when you finally set secrets free. Whether good or bad, at least they’re out in the open. And once your secrets are out in the open, you don’t have to hide behind them anymore. The problem with secrets is even when you think you’re in control, you’re not.
