A Love Built To Last – (Chapter: Chapter Nine)
“I’m sorry,” Ashley stated in an apologetic tone. Paula looked confused and Ashley continued, “I know there are a lot of stories about me from a lot of different people in this city, and I wish I could say the rumors aren’t true, when indeed they are. I am not like that anymore. I wish that I could undo the mistakes I’ve done in my past, but then again it wouldn’t lead me to now… to Spencer. Give me a chance to prove that I really and truly want to be with Spencer.”
“Fine, you get one chance to prove that you are worthy enough to see my daughter,” said Paula. If you blow it, you’ll forget about dating Spencer.
“One chance is all that I need,” Ashley replied. I don’t intend to mess up.
“There is only one condition,” added Paula.
“What is it?” Ashley asked with curiosity.
“I would like you to have dinner tonight,” answered Paula. My husband and I really don’t know you and would like to know your intentions with Spencer. We want to know who Spencer is with. Will that be a problem?
“Not at all,” Ashley stated trying to keep her cool. I’m not the best when it comes to meeting the parents in the past. This is for Spencer. I’ll overcome my fear for her. The things you do for love… love. Love, where did that I come from? Do I love Spencer? Alright, so what time should I come over, uh sixish is good for you?
“Six is fine,” responded Paula.
“Alright, I’ll see you then,” Ashley stated. Thank you.
Later on, Ashley rang the doorbell to Spencer’s house. Spencer opened the door. “Hey you,” said Ashley with a smile.
“Hi,” Spencer said. I’m sorry about…
“Don’t even worry about it,” replied Ashley. I’ll do whatever it takes for us to be together. If coming over for a meal will prove to your parents that I’m good enough to date their wonderful and beautiful daughter than that is what I am going to do.
“You are good enough for me,” Spencer pointed out.
“Thank you,” responded Ashley. I’ve waited for a long time to finally have you all to myself.
“Was I worth the wait?” Spencer asked with curiosity.
“Absolutely,” answered Ashley with a smile. Ashley placed a lingering kiss on Spencer’s lips. Paula and Arthur appeared.
“So you’re the Ashley,” Arthur began. I have heard a lot of things about you. Ashley gulped. Spencer took Ashley’s hand in her own.
“Good things,” corrected Spencer. You have nothing to worry about. You said that you’d be nice to her, Dad.
“I was simply stating a fact,” Arthur responded.
Awhile later, Spencer and Ashley were eating. “So what are your intentions with Spencer?” began Paula. Ashley had been eating and almost choked on her food. Spencer patted Ashley on her back to help her girlfriend out.
“Mom, let the girl eat her food first,” Spencer joked. She’s going to choke on her food and one of us is going to have to do the Heimlich maneuver.
“It’s cool,” responded Ashley. My intentions are to be a good girlfriend. I’ll be there for her through the good and the bad. I want to be the one who can make her as happy as she made me. I want to make her laugh and be the one who can bring her back up when the world seems to be dragging her down. I want to be the one to hold her tight and tell her everything is alright when she is down.
“What about the other girls?” Paula asked accusingly.
“Paula, I think Ashley made it clear that she wants to be with Spencer,” answered Arthur. You don’t have to answer the question if you don’t want to, Ashley.
“I want to though,” Ashley stated. The difference is that Spencer is in a category all on her own and that I am falling for her more and more as each day goes by. Spencer is really special to me. The other girls may be my past, but Spencer is my future. She is the girl for me. Spencer means everything to me and I don’t plan on going anywhere without a fight. Spencer smiled at Ashley’s response.
