“In conclusion, the Mayan civilization’s advances in their era’s technology paved the road to our modern day effective farming.” Rachel’s eyes fluttered open. This two-hour lecture had been going on about one hour and fifty-nine minutes too long. As she tried desperately to stay awake, a small note folded into a triangle was passed onto her desk.

“Rise and shine sleepy head. I don’t think the Mayans would appreciate your little nap. Don’t worry, you can copy my notes.”

Rachel quietly giggled as she turned the note over and began to write back.

“Why? Do you want me to flunk World History?”

She passed the note to the desk behind her. A few moments later a subtle signature scoff sounded from the back and Rachel grinned. The same folded note slid back onto her desk, with writing on the back.

“Ouch. You’ll have to make it up to me for that one. Are you doing anything for lunch? We could go off campus to Fusion Sushi if you want. I promise we’ll be back in time for fifth period.”

As she read the note, Rachel’s eyes brightened. She quickly wrote her response and discreetly passed the note back.

“You had me at dead fish.”

The ball rang and the students flooded from the classroom. Jordan and Rachel grabbed their books and left the torture chamber known as History Class.
