After Prom… – (Chapter: ‘Well now we’re even.”)

    Ch. 11

After a few excruciating hours, Ashley was put into a room. She was still unconscious, however. “Ms. Carlin, what’s your relationship with Ms. Davies?” the doctor asked, as he flipped the pages of her medical record on his clipboard. “I’m, uh.. her friend. Girlfriend actually.” I stated, although it wasn’t official again yet. He looked at me with a raised eyebrow and cleared his throat. “Well then, Ms. Carlin, we were unable to contact the mother of Ms. Davies directly.. so I might as well tell you that she has a broken nose and a slight concussion, but she’ll be fine. Just give her a couple of weeks to heal that nose and concussion and she’ll be back to normal. You may go see her now.” “Thanks.” I said, before practically bursting into her room. Ashley looked like she was sleeping peacefully, her chest rising up and down as she breathed. I walked over to her side. I pulled a chair over to her bedside and sat down. I reached for her hand and put it in mine, rubbing her thumb with mine. “Ashley.. I’m so sorry.” I whispered, starting to cry. “It’s all my fault. I’m so sorry you had to get hurt like this.” One of my tears fell on her hand.

Just then I swore her hand squeezed mine. I looked up to see her smiling at me on the bed. “Ashley!” I cried out happily. I threw my arms around her in joy. “Whoa, whoa, whoa… Spence, easy there.” She said, wincing as I brushed her broken nose. “Sorry.” I said, mentally reprimanding myself for doing something so stupid like that. “So.. “ Ashley said, grinning like a fool. “I take it I’ve proven my undying love for you by getting what, a broken nose.. and a stiff neck?” she joked. “Actually the doctor said it’s a mild concussion.” I corrected her, wincing. “And yes, Ashley Davies, I’m so sorry I made you go through all that. I was selfish, and stupid, and.. I love you so much.” I said, beginning to cry all over again. “Don’t cry, babe.” She whispered, reaching up to my face with her hand and wiping my tears away. “Then I can’t see your beautiful smile.”
