Alteration – (Chapter: (2) Home Sweet Home)
“Its a bout a two hour drive"
"Great"
"Yea…so Raife’s manager told me your really good with cars"
"I guess"
She wasn’t used to taking compliments so Ashley awkwardly shrugged and looked out her window.
"I have a….friend who owns a shop. I could get you a job there"
"Why would I need a job?"
"Because you’ll need the money"
"Dad has to send the green stuff my way sis"
The term ‘sis’ was not one of endearment but used to taunt.
"True, but daddy dearest told me that you’re only to get a hundred a week and the rest is to be set up for college"
"You can not be serious. Since when did he give a fuck about my education?!"
"I know I don’t know him all that well, but I and you both know some how the press will hear about it. It’s all appearances Ashley."
"Right. I still don’t think I want a job"
"Oh come on, it’ll keep you busy, trust me. You won’t have time to shoot up or whatever, between school, your new friends and a job"
"Why the hell do you keep bringing it up"
The whole nice guy thing wasn’t really going to work if Mia kept hitting these sore spots. By the venom and defensiveness that lased her voice, Mia knew she would have to skirt around the subject a little before going there. But first she had to make one thing clear to young Ashley.
"I just, I know we barely know each other but you’re my sister. Weather you like it or not I’ve got to look out for you. It would kill me if I let you down"
Ashley was taken aback, here was this girl, blood or not, they’ve known each other for all of twenty minutes and she cared fore her more than her father could. She felt her walls softening and although she was scared that Mia would turn on her like her father she was happy to have that automatic bond and love that comes with being family. She was happy to have some one who cared for her but she of coarse would never admit it.
"Sign me up"
She tried to make it sound as if she was badgered into it but couldn’t. The grin on her sister’s face made her glad. She rejoiced in the fact that she might finally have a home.
