    Alternate Ending Contest- Bella's Choice

"No. Not when there's a better alternative." I sighed. Edward's face fell slightly but he nodded, knowing full well that would be my answer. He opened his mouth, as if to say something, but closed it again and rested his chin against my head. This moment was perfect; I could've died at that moment and been extremely happy. My angel, convinced he was anything but that, was with me and maybe, I should just be content with that.

"Looks like prom is over," Edward noticed, in an effort to distract me, gesturing towards the crowd of people who were exiting the gym. Another night of my life over, I thought ruefully as I stared at all the happy couples who were walking hand in hand. Mike and Jessica seemed to have had a good time, although, when Mike caught my eye, something in the way he glanced at me and then at Edward suggested he was still not over his crush on me. Boys will be boys, I thought to myself. Edward seemed to notice the glance as well, or maybe Mike was just thinking erotically again, because he stiffened and placed his arms around me as if protecting me or claiming ownership over me. Mike scowled but walked off, putting his arm around Jessica, as if he was trying to catch my attention and make me jealous. As if. I liked Mike, but when he was like this, it was very tempting to go up to him and say, "My boyfriend is a vampire. Do not make me set him on you."

"Did you enjoy yourself? Did I cure you of your dancing phobia?" Edward turned back to me, with a faint, mocking smile on his face. I nodded, not really sure what else to say. This had been one of the best nights of my life, the only one topping it was the night Edward stopped over. Something he said that night, kept ringing in my ears over and over again.

"Juat because we"ve been dealt…a certain hand it doesn't mean we can't choose to rise above. To conquer the boundaries of a destiny, none of us wanted." It made me even more confident of what I wanted, knowing if Edward and his family could be strong and survive, surely I could. Back then, he'd been referring to his family's 'vegetarianism' but I could also apply it to this situation. A destiny I didn't want, was one where Edward was out of the picture. If his family could rise above their bloodlust for humans, then I could find a way to exist with Edward. Forever.
