Another kind of Notebook – (Chapter: They Talk (edited))

"Get up. You’re coming with us." Kyla says.

"And may I ask where we’re going?" I ask.

"To a party at my house. Now get up." Kyla commands.

"Do I even have a choice?" I ask.

"Uh… no. come on, you need to get out of this house." Kyla says.

""I do, every day." I point out.

"I mean other than work." Kyla says

    "I do…sometimes." I said.

"Yeah, but you need to get out and be wild like you used to. Come on both me and Ash want you to go" Kyla says and I look over at Ashley.

"do you really want me to go?" I ask looking into her eyes, and with in seconds I feel like I’m drowning in them.

"Yes" Ashley says. How is it that one word can hold so much meaning, but her eyes are saying a lot more? It’s like their begging me to take the first step. But the question is to what? It’s also amazing how that one word can change my mind in a snap.

    "Fine. I’ll go" I said.

And now Kyla’s jumping up and down screaming at the top of her lungs. God help me. What did I just get myself into?

So we left the house, but when we pulled up at Kyla’s there where no cars no music nothing. "I thought you said there was a party." I said.

"Oh that… uh I kind of lied. But it was all in good reason. You needed to get out of that house before you suffocated." Kyla pointed out.

"Yeah I guess you’re right. But only this time. I bet it won’t happen again for at least a year." Ashley and I laugh at the end of my statement.

"Hey! I resent that." Kyla said.

"Good! You’re supposed to." I say.

The rest of the night was pretty uneventful. Well at least until Kyla fell asleep. I was trying to fall asleep, but when I turned over to get comfortable I saw Ashley sitting by the fire place with a far away look in her eyes. I got up from the couch, we were in the living room, I walked over and sat beside her. I whispered, "hey you alright?"

She quickly turned her head. "Oh, yeah I’m fine. Just thinking."

"Anything you want to talk about?" I asked

    "Not really." She said.

"Listen I know you got some girl you don’t know sitting beside you wanting you to tell her what’s wrong. And you don’t know if you can trust me with your secretes. But I promise you I will always be here is you need someone to talk to. You just have to trust me." Ok?" Man that was a lot to say please let it work.

"well you really want to know?" she looks at me and I nod. "Ok well my boyfriend back home called earlier and… and… and he proposed to me and I don’t know if I’m ready for that kind of commitment." She was crying by this point do I pulled her into a hug and rubbed her back repeating things like ‘shhhh its going to ok’ and things like that. When she finally calmed down she pulled away and said, "sorry. I don’t know why I’m crying."

"its ok. I understand I mean your what 18 and you don’t know if he’s the ONE. You know the one you want to be with for the rest of you’re life."

    "I really don’t."
