Ashes Made Cold – (Chapter: A Year of Lingering.)

"This will do, yes?" the bird asks.

"Yes, this is perfect. I can already see him running and crying."
She smiles insanely, "It will of course, do him no good."
"No, it won’t." the bird takes off in one direction, but Bianca
    heads off in another.

The bird swoops back and follows his lone traveler. It ignores the
pull to take its ward home realizing that this one isn’t going to do
everything just as it should. Bianca feels the bird behind her. She
can see it following her if she closes her eyes and uses its
instead. She feels something familiar about this area and needs to
explore. She keeps to the alleys trying to at least offer herself
some camouflage. When she stops at the end of one alley, the crow
    perches on her left shoulder.

    "Why?"

"I’m not sure. I just had to come this way." She answers honestly.

"You know this place." It states.

"Yes, I believe I do." She says as she walks up to a now empty SOS.

For a moment, all she does is look into the dark building through its
window. She sees the empty bar, the dusty tables and chairs, and the
old decor. It causes a smile to cross her face briefly. The bird
    shifts uncomfortably on her shoulder.

    "We should go."

    "In a minute." She argues.

    "Now."

She ignores the bird and slowly, almost gently touches her hand to
the cold, clear glass of the window. It immediately over takes her
with a vision causing her body to stiffen.

<<< "Hey, pass me the hot sauce, Maggie."

"Bean, one of these days you are going to burn off all of your taste
buds. Take that from a pre med student." Maggie laughs out as she
    hands the hot sauce over.

"Yeah, well. You will just have to come up with a way to fix it then
won’t you. It isn’t my fault that you want to have nachos all the
time." Bianca pours the hot sauce over her portion of the nachos.

"Hey, you don’t have to say yes when I ask. You could force me to
come and eat all alone." Maggie smiles mischievously.

"You know I can’t say no to you, Maggie…especially not when its
nachos. I promise to never make you eat them alone again."

"Awwww….you’re so sweet, Bean." Maggie puts her arm around Bianca in
    the booth. >>>
"We need to go." The crow’s voice comes into the vision, "Some one
    will see."
