Me & Tara entered the room with Ashley’s glass of water. We tried to act like nothing happened. Buddy was wagging around Tara’s legs. “Bud, gotta go out?” I asked him. He wagged some more & trotted to the back door. “I’ll let them out” I looked at Tara.
“yeah would you guys want to sleep over?” Tara looked from Ashley to Aiden. Ashley nodded.
“Sure” Aiden said as he was getting up. He looked at me. “I’ll let the dogs out with you.” He said. I nodded & we went towards the door. As they did their business, I went to sit on the trampoline. It was dark now & I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect night. It was perfectly clear & it was chilly. Aiden came and sat next to me. “so what am I in for since I moved here?” he smiled.
“Well, A lot of yelling, barking & chaos. You’ll love it!” I joked. We both laughed & then it got silent. Not an awkward silence. It was a nice kind of silence. Buddy and Kelsey were wrestling in the sand pit where Tara’s pool used to be. I got up & jumped as hard as I could to make Aiden bounce. He didn’t budge.
“Was that a sad attempt to mess with me?” He looked up at me & smiled. I couldn’t help but laugh at my pathetic-ness. He then got up and did the same thing that I did to him. My legs buckled and I fell on my ass & almost flew off the trampoline. Aiden grabbed me by the arms and pulled me upwards. It was that weird pathetic part in the movies. You know, when the first time lovers touch, they get that feeling in the pit of their stomach. I stumbled forwards. We were face to face. I honestly didn’t know what was going to happen next. We heard the sliding door open. We immidiatly looked away from each other. Next thing you know, here comes Tara flying on the trampoline with Ashley in her footsteps. Aiden’s hands were still on my arms & we were still awfully close. Tara gave me a look & Ashley did the same to Aiden. We noticed we were still touching & let go.
“So, um…” I cleared my throat. “What do you guys want to do?” I sat down next to Tara. Aiden completed the circle by sitting in between me & Ashley.
“Let’s paint our nails.” Ashley raised her eyebrows in a prissy kind of way & pointed her foot out in the middle of the circle. Aiden pushed it away.
“No one wants to touch your fungi feet.” Aiden told Ashley. We all laughed except Ashley. “I have to go feed Stone. He’s a pit bull too, Tara.” Aiden hopped off the trampoline.
“oh cool. Maybe Kels will have a new friend” Tara stood up. Aiden nodded.
“Joey , you want to come see him?” He took my hands & helped me hop off the trampoline.
“sure.” I looked at Tara. “we’ll be right back.”
“HA who are you kidding?” Ashley laughed.
“You’re too funny.” Aiden gave her a look. We turned around & hopped the gate keeping the dogs in the yard.
Chapter 6
When we walked in the door, a grey apbt puppy with bright blue eyes greeted us with wagging and whining. I immidiatly dropped to the ground to play with him.
“Aiden, he’s like one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen. Don’t tell me, he’s your wingman, right?” I looked up still petting Stone.
“Well, I don’t know… how’s it working on you?” Aiden leaned against the wall.
“Cute, Just a player.” I stood up & brushed the puppy hair off my jeans. Aiden shrugged & smiled.
“Come on, Stone.” Aiden called to him. I kicked off my uggs & followed them into the kitchen. Aiden gave him a bowl full of puppy chow.
“so, you and Ashley are pretty much like, bestfriends?” I asked. Aiden hopped up on the counter.
“yeah.” He smiled. Then there was another moment of silence…awkward silence. Stone finished his food & took a few slurps of water. He turned around & approached me once again. “I think Stone likes you.”
“I think I like Stone.” I picked him up. He licked my face twice & stopped squirming. “He has pretty eyes.” I looked up at Aiden & he was smiling at me. I laughed. “what?” I put Stone down.
“I was just about to say the same thing about you…that’s all”
“you’re so corny” I laughed. Even though, I wasn’t fooling anyone that I wasn’t blushing. I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. Every time, Tara. I thought. I pulled out the phone & read the text :
Ahhh. She told me I had beautiful eyes <3
I rolled my eyes. Not in annoyance but in relief. “so do you and Ashley plan what you’re going to say to girls?”
“she learns everything from her big bro. you know how it is.”
“psht, okay mr.hottshot” I teased. He turned on the sink next to him & ran his fingers under the faucet. He turned off the water & flicked the water at me. I made a shocked face & he did the same to mock me. I dipped my fingers in stone’s water bowl & flicked it on him. He grabbed my arm playfully & pulled me towards him on the counter. Once again, we were face to face, Staring at each other’s mouths. Aiden leaned in. it seemed like it took forever until our lips finally met. His hand slowly made its way to my waist. We didn’t make out, or anything. But the kiss was enough to hold me over for the night.
We finally separated. Our foreheads were touching, like you would see in a movie. I bit on my lip & smiled. Stone started to jump up on Aiden’s leg.
“He might be jealous” Aiden turned his head towards stone. He hopped off the counter & picked stone up. “I feel bad leaving him”
“Bring him over. We can set up puppy gates” I let my hand run across Aiden’s hand & walked over to my shoes. I almost fell over, but Aiden grabbed my shoulder. “Thanks” Aiden opened the door for me & handed me Stone’s leash.
