Backstage Passes – (Chapter: 13: Bad to Worse)

“I know Ash. I know.” We sit there like that for a good 20 minutes. I look over to the T.V. where Raife was now on the screen. “Ash.” She looked up and turned the T.V. up. It was an interview with him.

“So Raife, how proud are you of Ashley? I mean she is slowly becoming as big as you.” A reporter asked.

“I have never been more proud of her. I just wish I saw her more to show her how proud I was.” He answered honestly. Ash started wiping her eyes, a few tears still shedding, but at the words he was saying.

“So is there anything you regret?”

“Yeah there are a few things. I wish I didn’t do drugs, they really messed me up, but most of all I wish I spent more time with my daughters.”

“Daughters?” Ashley asked to no-one, emphasising the ‘s’.

“This is the first time you have ever mentioned your other daughter. Most of the world didn’t even know you had one. Is there any reason for that?”

“If I did say anything, I know Ashley would probably hate me for keeping Kyla a secret…”

    “Damn right I would.”

“And as she’s watching this I can imagine what she is saying. It’s either ‘damn right’ or ‘hell yeah’.” He laughed. Ashley also laughed. Maybe her dad paid more attention to her than she thought. “But Ashley, if you are watching this, please don’t hate me.”

“I don’t dad.” She said to the screen.

“And please don’t hate your sister.”

“Can’t promise anything there.” It’s like they were talking to each other through the screen. It was weird, but sweet.

“Thanks Raife.” The reporter said before Ash completely turned the T.V. off.

“Spencer. I think I’m ready to go downstairs.”

    “Are you sure.”

She looked back over to the T.V. screen before turning back to me smiling. “Yeah.”

“Come on then.” We made our way back downstairs.

My mum and dad rushed over to her. My dad wrapped her up in a strong hug. “Are you ok?”

“Yeah thanks Mr. C. Me and dad had a little chat.” Only I knew what she was on about, but dad still smiled at her.

“Ashley, I know this probably doesn’t mean much. But there was no plan between me and Hayley. I don’t know why she said it, but I can promise you, I have no idea what she is on about. She phoned me up saying she wanted to be friends with Spencer again, I swear.”

“I don’t like people lying to me Mrs. C.”

“I wouldn’t lie to you after what you just saw.” Wow, sometimes I wander here this side of my mum is.

“Thank you.” They shared a quick hug before we went back to the party. Ash didn’t talk about what had happened. And nobody asked, well until a certain blonde showed up again.

“Ashley, just saw the news. Poor daddy.” Hayley said sarcastically.

“What are you doing back? Ready for round two?” Madison asked.

“Whatever. So I take it you haven’t heard what’s happened Ash.”

    “Yeah I heard what happened.”

“And you haven’t been crying. That’s low. You dad’s dead and not one tear shed.”

“What? Ash?” Aiden and Madison asked. Ashley went into the kitchen; she was trying to hide back the tears.

“Hayley what the fuck. You can’t come in here and say all the shit! You are such a bitch!” I don’t think I’ve ever swore three times in near enough a row.

“Awww did I hurt you little girlfriends feelings?”

“Hayley you better get out now.” Madison snarled.

“Why what you going to do?”

Madison headed toward her, when Aiden grabbed her. Glen grabbed Hayley, picked her up and threw her out the house kicking and screaming. “So what happened?”

I knew it wasn’t really my story to tell, but they looked really concerned. “Ashley’s dad got into turbulence, his plane went down and… well you know. Then she was like talking to him threw the screen, it was so cute, and she found out she had a sister.”

“Damn. We should go and check on her.” Aiden said.

“No, give her some peace; she needs to cry it out. I’ll go and check on her in 10 minutes.”
