    Walking out is everyone’s job.

     

    “Where are you going?” she asked confusedly, her brow furrowing.

     

    “Out. Away. Leaving. If you’re the one leaving then I’m the one that gets to go. I can’t stay here.”

     

    “Where will you go?”

     

    “What the fuck do you care?” And with that, Gray was gone.

     

    Spencer fell on the couch so drained she thought she might shrivel up and die. She’d done it. She’d actually left Gray. Admittedly he’d then left her but that was… ok. She hoped. All of her energy up and left. She was gone. Amazed that she could actually muster the movement, she dragged herself to bed and slept more deeply than she had in years.

     

    When Spencer awoke, the Sunday sun was streaming in the window and she knew instantly that Gray had not returned. His side of the bed was un-slept in. It was a strange feeling. She got up and found Elly on the floor watching cartoons with the sound off, subtitles on, and a bowl of cereal on her lap. It was the first time ever that Spencer could remember her daughter fetching her own breakfast. A little amazed she walked into the kitchen. The milk was open on the bench and there were cornflakes littered around it, with the box standing nearby. Actually, it was about half the disaster zone that Spencer had expected and she cleaned it up without a fuss. Her brain was too tired to think and definitely too tired to complain. Her brain was, but her body still felt wired. The last few days were just too much to think about.

     

    She anticipated Gray returning some time today. Despite her assurance last night that she wouldn’t flee, she was overwhelmed with the urge to now. When Elly had finished her cereal, Spencer got them ready quickly.

     

    “Where are we going?” Elly signed, confused.

     

    “Grandma and Grandpa’s”, Spencer signed back.

     

    “Oh” Elly looked happy, but a little nonplussed. Spencer ignored her daughters expressions and got them into the car as quickly as she could.

     

    The way to her parents was clear and they made good time. Spencer had no idea what she was going to say to them. She knew that telling her parents was going to be nearly as hard as telling Gray. And she still had no idea WHAT to say to Elly. She was leaving that one until later. But her parents… Now that the scariness of actually breaking up with Gray was over, the only fear she had was her mother’s reaction. And she knew she wanted to get that over with as quickly as possible.

    1. hey, yesterday i realized why Elly is such a great kid. Its cause…dundunDUN she can sign. Spence prolly signed since infancy. soooo Elly has always been able to communicate. ergo, good kid. in like the first 2or3 years of life your vocal cords just arent developed enough, and you cant communicate. but with signing, you miss those terrible twos all together.so enough of me being a nerd. nice up date.

    2. ah, I love it! I think the arguments were great, even though personally, if I was Spence, I’d have gone on for a looong time – possibly even castrated Gray – call himself a man!? ha! I wanna post something this week, though I’m on location on Mon and Tues, in the studio on Wed and in lectures all day Thurs. On Friday I plan to sleep. See, I’m a busy God – it’s like making the world all over again – “On the 5th Day God had a seizure due to ridiculous levels of stress he had to deal with”. Goob, tell my son I may need to borrow Ash and Spence from him for a while, to aid me on my day of rest. I request more soon, Clom, do not disappoint! ;-)

    3. Ok for the sake of the story and the fact that I contributed to goober’s injuries, I will bow down and declare the hemi-demi-semi goddess status. This is an amazing story and I am so glad Spence left Gray. I’m still wonderin what happened to Olivia though unless I missed something. Oh and I was jumping for joy when I found out that you have the force field. YAY! You truly are a spashley gaurdian angel. PMS

    4. Hey Im glad u love me like a fluffy kid!! Like ive said!! Fluffy kids dont get enough LOVE…so yah thnks for tht mate!! Oh and I think i can remember me telling you that I had a dream about this fic..well anyways its not exactly about this fic..but when i wake up and think about the dream..its the only thing i can really think as of to why I would be having it in the first place..Its reoccuring..it just wont stop..Ive had this dream for about the last week and a half..same thing..exactly the same..every freakin night!! Its kinda strtin to weird me out!!! but anyways Im soo glad tht Ashley is comming to the rescue..but the thing is..will it be for the better or for the worse? Im gettin ansy waiting for it!! I LOVE love love you!!! thnx and No pressure to post more soon..I would like it! but i understand that pressure is not something writers should deal with! =)

    19. I thought that chapter was written perfectly! The arguments shouldn’t have and wouldn’t have gone on longer, because both Spence and Gray are aware of what a sham their marriage is. Gray’s just being pissy because HE’S the one being left and it hurts his ego. He just wants dinner when he gets home and someone to do his laundry. Once the divorce is final, he’ll get a maid and be perfectly happy. And Spencer will get Ashley and it’ll be HOT!……Oh, and speaking of Spencer and Ashley, you didn’t misplace them. After Jesus rescued you, he decided the girls needed a bit of a vacation after all they’ve been through. He took them to Fiji for a week on the beach and some alone time. He’ll pick them up again next Saturday. He’s back now and a little nonplussed about my new H.D.S. Goddess status, though. He thinks it’s all poo. I, for one, am enjoyng my newfound powers, so thank you. ::::floats downstairs and magically stocks frig with beer:::: See? This is AWESOME.
