Best For Me – (Chapter: Leaving home.)

“Just miss you lately that’s all. I was thinking we could spend some time together this weekend. You, me and Elly.” She pulled back smiling. The smile drained from her face when she saw Gray’s expression.

“I can’t this weekend.” He said, his face flat and unapologetic.

“Why?” God she didn’t even know his schedule anymore. “Do we have something on?”

“I have to work babe” he walked away, off to find some food.

“On the weekend” Spencer couldn’t move, she could feel all the anger she’d let go absorb back in from the atmosphere. Any minute now she was going to explode. “Gray we never see each other any more. Elly never sees you any more”. The last sentence was said with more accusatory anger than Spencer thought she had in her.

“Spence” he sounded impatient. “This is an important project for us. We’ll do something, just not this weekend. Elly doesn’t care.”

Spencer stared at him. “I care Gray. Does she even have a father?”

“How can you say that” his anger sounded false to Spencer’s ears. She could feel bile rising in her throat and tears swimming in her vision. “Of course she does. What is with you lately?”

“With me” she choked. “I’m…” She felt everything crack. “I’m going to my parents. Put Elly to bed on time.”

And with that she walked out of the house.

The car didn’t leave the driveway. She wasn’t sure she could drive with the tears stinging her eyes. Besides, Spencer’s anger was making her shake so hard she couldn’t hold the wheel and she didn’t want to go anywhere near her parents at the moment. Her mother would just send her back anyway. Her mother loved Gray.

Steadying herself, she pulled her phone out of her pocket. Flipping through the numbers she tried to remember where all her friends had gone. They were there, but since Elly had been born she’d become so wrapped up in her own life. Her fingers scrolled the buttons until a name caught her eye. She shouldn’t. She knew she shouldn’t. Making sure her voice was unshaken and she sounded calm she dialed the number.

    “Hello” the phone answered.

“Ashley?” Spencer tried, not sounding nearly as calm as she’d hoped.

    1. yes!!!!! reach out to someone who cares. i love how human this story is. it’s hard for me to be mad a gray, cause thats a human reaction that happens so often. it sucks, but its real. sympathies to Spence, though, its hard being in that situation with no support.

    2. Great post as usual. But then again I dont think its possible for you to have a bad post. Im sad that your not going to be updating 28 days for a while but I’ll get over it because I love this story. I cant wait to see what happens with that call. Oh and by the way… if its possible could you bring me back a souvenir when you return from your long journey of saving spashley? Maybe something from Tibet would be nice.

    3. You let a Cyborg GOAT take the brownies I made you!?! I made those from scratch! (granted I didn’t scratch while I made them…but still!) I am hurt…HURT I tell you. Theres only one way you can make it up to me…WRITE MORE! And even then we’ll have to have a talk…*sigh* *grumbles* Whats next, Humpty Dumpty turned into a Omlette?! *grumbles* And yes you can have an amazing sugar high from pixie sticks like Goober said, although I’ve never tried snorting one…*ponders the thought* I’m LOVING this fic! And of course you had to leave us with Spence calling Ashley, good oh so good! Your stories are like Crack…so now I am giving you the title of Fic Dealer! ;-) Okay yes I am way too wired right now. But just know I cannot get enough of your stories, and I NEED MORE! :-) (Oh and incase you’re wondering the Jell-o and pixie stick are being held at ‘dish’ point until your next installment)

    4. Ugh…Gray’s denial over Elly’s condition is extremely disheartening. He is probably having an affair in between golf practice and a business trip to Phoenix. Spencer really needs a girlfriend to talk to about this. You have done a great job of depicting the lonely, isolated mother, who is ignored by her husband, and most likely has little or no self esteem at this point. I am sure she doesn’t believe anyone would find her remotely attractive. Her attraction to Ashley stems from a myriad of reasons…I am anxious to see how that will go.By the way, cyborg’s don’t sleep, so you’re shit out of luck. kiss that brownie goodbye.

    9. oooo. She is going to call ashley, and stay with her for the night and im guessing that there will be some flirting, but not much more. MAYBE a kiss that turns out bad. lol IDK, but this is better than i expected. Kind of like Imagine me And You, but with more drama.PMS

    11. Oh, and I love the fic, as always. I love that Spence is calling Ash. LOVE IT! How could I not? Would I be reading this if I DIDN’T want her to? Probably not. But I’m babbling. And avoiding getting back to work. Enjoy your ranch dressing….but not too much.

    13. A pixie stick, my dear Clomle, is a paper tube about the thickness of a straw or pencil, a little longer than both, that is filled with a fine powdered sugar that is colored and flavored kind of sweetly sour. Basically, they are the perfect design for rotten teeth and overly sugar rushing 5 year olds. When I was in elementary school, my friend dared (triple dog dared, actually) me to snort one. I’ve never been so crazily hyper in my life. For those who are concerned, Clomle has assured me that she has escaped the clutches of the evil cyborg goat with the help of my Uncle and a bevy of Thai drag queens. They are now somewhere near the former nation of Tibet drinking yak butter. The things you do for Spashley, Clomle. The things you do.
