“Let’s party!” exclaimed Skyler. We got out onto the floor and soon I found myself packed tightly up against Alyssa and Skyler. I swear if it wasn’t for the strange setting, I could have sworn I went back in time. It felt like it was a year ago. It was fun, but it was nothing compared to the night when I danced with Ashley at Aiden’s house. After about an hour of straight dancing, I was about ready to drop.

“You look like you could use something to drink,” Alyssa shouted.

“What?” I asked. The music was loud making it extremely difficult to hear her.

“I said you look like you could use something to drink,” Alyssa repeated.

“Yeah, that sound incredibly good,” I replied slightly relieved to pry myself away from the heat. We both made our way up to the bar.

“Two cokes,” Alyssa told the bartender.

“You don’t have to pay for me,” I told Alyssa.

“It’s the least I can do,” she responded. The bartender gave us our cokes, and Alyssa gave him the money. I took a sip and Alyssa said something to me again. “What?”

“I said I have to go to the bathroom will you come with me?” she asked.

“Yeah, sure I have to go too,” I replied. We ran off to the bathroom. I was seriously amazed with how well tonight has gone. Maybe they have changed. We made our way back up to the bar. Alyssa picked up a can and took a drink from it. Sitting on a stool, I sipped on my own coke.

“This feels so weird,” Alyssa stated over the bass.

“What?” Ok so I knew what she meant. But I still wanted her to verify it for my own self satisfaction.

“Being this close to you again,” she whispered into my ear sliding her hand over my thigh. Ok this isn’t what I thought she meant. Unconsciously, I could feel myself tense up.

“Um,” was all I managed to get out.

“Do you ever think about us?” was she really asking me this now? Where the fuck was she a year ago? Why here? Why the fuck now?

“Past tense,” I replied shifting so her hand fell off of my knee. She looked at me confused. Something tried to push its way through my thoughts. I could feel something try to stop me from doing this, but it had to be done. “I loved you, once upon a time.”
