Chocolate Pudding – (Chapter: Chapter 2)

“Yes but she’s not in the ER today; she’s working in Admin.”  Now she’s doing something on the computer.

    “Admin?”

“Yes, she’s Chief of Hospital Administration.  Can I help you with something?  I’m sorry but do I know you?”  Abby finally looks up from what she’s doing, and the wheels they are a’turnin’!

Reluctantly I take off my sunglasses and smile.  “Hi Abby.  I don’t know if you remember me, I’m…”

“Dr. Legaspi, oh my gosh, it’s so good to see you!  What are you doing here?”

“Oh I’m in town visiting friends and just wanted to stop by and see Kerry.  So she’s Chief of Hospital Administration now, that’s great!”

“Yeah I think she really likes it.  Hold on, I’ll call her secretary and see if she’s in.”

“Yes Amber?  This is Dr. Lockhart down in the ER.  No everything’s fine; actually I’m calling because Dr. Weaver has a visitor down here, is she free?  Oh, oh Ok, I’ll let her know, alright, thanks, bye!  Kim, she just left two minutes ago to grab some lunch at Magoo’s, you can catch her there if you like.”

    “Thanks Abby.”

“Good luck, with your visit I mean.”  She gave me a wink and a smile that made me want to scratch my head.

“Thanks, I think.  It was good to see you again Abby, please tell your mom I said hello.”

    “I will, bye!”

So she’s at Magoo’s.  How perfectly ironic for us to meet up there.  I crossed the street and could see her thru the window.  She just sat down at a booth and it looked like the waitress was taking her drink order.  It’s now or never Kim.  God she looked great!  And then there’s me – a frumpy looking pudding addict with bottle brunette hair.  Maybe this wasn’t a good idea.  Oh my God, she’s looking out the window right at me.  Surely she doesn’t recognize me.  Dammit I didn’t put my sunglasses back on.  Oh shit she’s getting up.

I was starting to walk towards the diner when this black Lincoln town car with pitch-black windows pulls up right next to me on the street.  I turn to look and a large, ape-like man steps out from the front passenger seat and approaches me.

“Uhhh, Dr. Legaspi?”  The big dope sounded like some guy right out of the Sopranos!  And how in the hell did he know my name?

“Y-yes?”  Am I getting mugged or kidnapped here?

“Uhhh, Mr. Lombardo wants you should get in the car to go see ‘em.”

    “Mr. Lombardo?”

“Uhhh, yea, he says he was a patient a’ yours a few years back and was wonderin’ if he could see you again for a visit.”

“Mr. Lombardo, you mean the Boss of the Chicago Outfit, Mr. Lombardo?  Who I treated for depression?  How did he even know that I was in town?”

“Excuse me, but his correct title is Executive Director of the Chicago Gaming Company.  And he’s got his ways.”

“I, ahhh, have to go see him now?”  This was clearly not on my agenda this week, or any other week for that matter.

“He said it was a emergency.  I really don’t think you should keep him waiting.  Dr. Legaspi….” He opens the door to the backseat expectantly, and it’s at this point that I realize he’s got a gun.

As I was getting ready to get into the car, I see Kerry come out of Magoo’s, coming right towards us.  Her steps quicken when she realizes we’re about to pull away.

    “Kim?  Kim, wait!”

This does not look good for me.
