Coming Undone – (Chapter: Chapter Twelve – {Past Memories and Bad Dreams})

As she continued to shuffle through the trinkets, Spencer wondered what to do.  Clearly, she has Gia.  Can I expect her to just drop everything for me?  It would be unfair to Ashley, especially after how Spencer acted.  Not that she regretted it.  Ashley had broken her in ways Spencer never thought her heart could break.  The things Ashley did and said while she was high would make even the strongest romantic crumble.  But Ashley was better now and seemed to be doing well; her face plastered all over the LA streets, not for scandals but for the success of her father’s company.

And then there was Natalie.  She deserves a fair chance, Spencer thought.  She couldn’t bear the idea of hurting Natalie.  She was more than amazing to Spencer, understanding with the Ashley situation and dependable…consistent.  There was Spencer’s biggest hang-up.  Ashley wasn’t consistent and Spencer wasn’t sure of how much had changed.  What if everything was going good and the next bad thing happened and Ashley disappeared again.  Spencer knew she wasn’t strong enough to dig herself out of that hole again.

Spencer shoved the top back on the box and roughly pushed it under her bed.  Stomping over to the light switch, she flicked it off and made her way back to her bed.  Spencer didn’t bother the take off her dress; instead she curled up tightly and cried herself to sleep.

Ashley laid in bed, her arms wrapped tightly around the blonde’s waist as her deep breathing filled the room.  Ashley had been awake for almost an hour now, but didn’t bother to get up from bed.  It was a Sunday morning, and light poured in, filling the room.  It was only eight in the morning and neither girl had anything to do.  Ashley’s mom had gone off to Cabo for the weekend; they had the house to themselves.

As Ashley silently counted the light freckles on Spencer’s back, Spencer began to stir somewhere around freckly number twenty-six.  Ashley ran her thumb along Spencer’s abs making her girlfriend smile.

                    “Mmm, morning.”

                    “How many?”

Spencer was silent for a moment; having just woke up, her mind wasn’t registering information as fast.  When she understood the question, she smiled brightly.  “Three.”
