Complexities – (Chapter: 3)
-no ones point of view-
Spencer ran her fingers over the band tee that has clearly been worn and torn. The bands name has faded due to multiple rides in the wash machine and the sides have been re- stitched multiple times.
“So is this like a band from back home? I’ve never heard of them.” The blonde asked with interest.
“Yeah. I’m not surprised you’ve never heard of them.” Ashley replied from inside the walk in closet while buttoning up her pants and putting on her belt.
“Are they any good?” The blue eyes examined every inch of the mere piece of cloth. It was so soft. Used from a different material than just cotton.
“I can’t really answer that question. If I say they are really good then I would be full of myself. If I said they weren’t too good then it would prove my lack of confidence. So I guess I’ll say they are.. or were okay.” The blonde could hear the younger girls smile in the sentence which caused her own face to crease without a reason.
“So you knew the members?” Spencer quickly changed from her bathing suit top to her bra and slipped the comfortable tee on.
“I was one of them.” Ashley replied with honestly although she somewhat didn’t want her to know. Her music was a part of her life. Which means it no longer is. The band held many memories that she didn’t find too pleasant. It represented the best and the worst times of her life.
“That is SO cool. Oh my god I’ve always wanted to know someone in a band. I mean, I know a guy named Nick and he plays drums but he is so horrible that I don’t think he counts. That’s so cool that you actually have like legit tee shirts and stuff. Did you make it big back home? What do you play? Do you sing? Who was in the band with you?” The older girl was fascinated with the brunettes past musical history. She wanted to hear the band and its music and decipher it. It was like finding another piece of the puzzle named Ashley.
“We were kind of big. We played lots of shows and our name made it around a few towns. We even had a few U.S. fans but not many. Umm. I kinda did multiple things. It all depended on the song. Some of them I played drums. Some I sang. My brother and I switched a lot of the time. It was only my brother, Aaron, and me in the band. Any other questions?” Ashley replied almost annoyed at herself for actually talking about her past to someone who she just met a few days ago. She never opens up. Its not like her.
“Haha… yeah if you don’t mind. How old is your brother? Why haven’t I ever met him? What is his name?” Ashley’s heart went cold in a way she hated. She was tired of the coldness that caused her heart to suffer from freezer burn.
“He stayed back home with my mother. He turns 16 today. Ashton is my twin.” Her voice was shaky and showed signs of weakness that Spencer clearly picked up on. Spencer tried to change the subject without Ashley noticing hoping to avoid her pain in the subject. She felt bad for intruding on the girls personal life, but at the same time she didn’t know it was going to be so personal.
“So what’s the meaning behind the band name?” Hoping the subject wouldn’t be so intrusive. Which It didn’t seem to be as Ashley walked out of the closet to explain it face to face. Spencer couldn’t help but notice how well the style the brunette chose fit her. Ashley had on baggy blue jeans that looked like they were supposed to fit on a guy. They sagged down a little, sporting plaid boxers just as a guy would. She wore a bright red baby tee that clung to her figure with a black beanie on top. It was a tom boy look but it added style. She made it look girly.
“Well… it means what it says. Hidden Vaccinations. Vaccinations could either prevent the symptom or cause the symptom. Yet everyone takes the risk in hopes of the best…but we added hidden as if our lyrics and our souls represented a vaccination that cured but no one realized its there. In a way it represents how much people over look others. For all we know the kid down the street has enough talent to cure cancer, but chances are we look over his brains and view him just as a kid.”
Spencer soaked up the explanation. She understood how it felt to be overlooked and under appreciated. “That’s so cool.” She whispered. The conversation went blank as the two girls had nothing really to talk about. Both of them were full of questions and full of answers, yet both were scared to ask or revel. The air began to thin out and their breathing picked up in a nervous manner. They didn’t understand the nervous feeling nor even thought about it. They just sat in a silence that was strangely comfortable.
The door bell awakened both of the girls from their dream like trance of nothingness.
“That must be Aiden. Are you ready for this. Things tend to get kind of crazy.” Spencer said in all serious.
“Oh trust me… I definitely know crazy parties. I think I can handle myself.” Ashley gave a soft smile and said with enthusiasm “But before this all begins, I’m going to go to the bathroom. You go and welcome all of your guests! But you might want to hide a few bottles of alcohol if you want me to feel anything. I’m definitely far from a light weight.” Ashley winked at Spencer and Spencer gladly accepted it.
As Spencer rushed excitedly down the stairs to greet her multiple friends, Ashley stared at herself in the mirror. She absolutely hated her reflection. All she saw when she looked into her very own eyes was Ashton. She missed him so much yet was pleased to be out of his life. He weighed her down yet pushed her up. They did everything together. You bleed for me I bleed for you. No hesitation, no backing out. Ashley and Ashton spent every living moment together. They never got annoyed by the other. They were literally like one whole split in half. They communicated without words. They knew the other better than they knew themselves.
Meanwhile, Aimee, Spencer’s best friend, was trying to soak up as much information on the arrival of Ashley as possible. Aimee was a journalist and naturally craved knowledge. Not in the curious way that Spencer was… no Aimee would do anything to find something out, literally everything. The pure Blackfoot Indian was very grungy/nerdy/emo. She was never caught dead without her thick rimmed glasses, flannel tee shirt and ripped pants. She rode her bike EVERYWHERE in full faith that cars are the end of the world. Her eyes were as pitch black as her hair and her skin was the tint of white chocolate mochas from starbucks.
“I’ve heard so many rumors about her. I heard that she was a druggy and that she was really violent and stuff. I love the dangerous unstable type. Do you think she would be down with the brown?” Aimee mindlessly rambled into Spencer’s ear. Yes Aimee was extremely gay and referred to ‘her people’ as ‘the brown’. They both awaited at the bottom of the stairs already sipping on their dranks.
“You know Aim, I don’t think she should would like either of us. Its kinda unclear. But for now I think we should definitely assume she is “down with the dick” . Spencer used air quotes to mock Aimee.
“Oh shut up. That’s too bad. We need a new lesbian chick in this town. I’ve hooked up with like everyone.” Aimee sighed and gulped her drink.
“Well.. you haven’t been with me!” Spencer laughed and wiggled her eye brows.
“I was just thinking that, fuck it Spencer, lets get down and dirty!” Aimee put her drink down and began to dance with Spencer in a way she would get crucified if her dad saw. Their bodies crushed together and they both laughed, already a little bit tipsy. You’d think that after how much they party, they&
rsquo;d be championship heavy weights but no.. after a few shots they are GONE.
“THERE SHE IS!” Spencer yells as Ashley walks down the steps, causing her to blush.
“Damn. Spencer you were right, shes fucking HOT.” Aimee said smiling at Ashley.
“Wow Spencer… you really couldn’t wait the whole five minutes I was up their to start drinking?” Ashley furrowed her brow and puffed out her lower lip acting hurt. And although she was playing, Spencer being tipsy, turned very serious and handed Ashley the rest of her drink.
“I’m so sorry.” Her blue eyes sank into Ashley’s causing her to smile.
“Alright. I need a lot more booze to even get close to where you are. You guys continue dancing or whatever you were doing and I’ll go… mingle/try to get smashed.” Ashley left the two other girls and headed over to the booze counter, pleased with the sight before her. Although she hasn’t drank in a few weeks, she used to drink a lot. A lot as in borderline alcoholic. Which she suffers now by being a heavy weight. She searched through her options and picked out good ol Jose and wiped out the inside of a shot glass.
“Hey there cuite, how you doin?!” The large man who had handed her the note earlier greeted her.
“Hey there macho, I’m good, how you doIN!” She purposely mocked him in half annoyance. She wasn’t drunk yet people! She thought, at least let me have a few shots before trying to hit on me.
“Whats a gorgeous girl like you over here all by yourself?” He asked while leaning on the counter next to her. Ashley kicks the shot of tequila to the back of her throat and pours herself another.
“Well it looks to me as I’m not by myself anymore now huh?” She looks around the room and smiles at the young man.
“My name is Aiden. And your Ashley right? I’m Spencer’s friend.” He smiled brightly, showing off his white teeth.
“Well I would hope. It would be kind of creepy if you didn’t know her and were delivering her notes.” Ashley slowly began to flirt with him, even though she didn’t quite realize that she was. The alcohol was hitting her system and Spencer noticed. In fact, became jealous. She had dibs before Aiden. She felt as if Ashley was her meat and Aiden was over their doing the marinating for her.
“OH MY GOD YOU KNOW WHO HIDDEN VACCINATIONS ARE TOO! I LOVE THAT BAND!” A girl who Spencer didn’t fully know blocked the view of the two drunken flirting humans.
“Oh. I’ve never heard of them. Sorry.” Spencer honestly replied. She hated when you said you liked a band and people went all psycho on her asking her what her favorite song is and if she couldn’t come up with a non-main stream song then she was a ‘true fan’.
“Then how do you have the tee shirt? Hidden Vaccinations is a Canadian band.” The girl was very short and very skinny with brunette hair and blonde side bangs.
“Ashley let me borrow it. Who are you?” Spencer suddenly realized that the girl wasn’t vaguely familiar, she didn’t recognize her at all.
“OH MY GOD. Like THE Ashley or a different Ashley. Cause if your talking about THE Ashley Davies. THE best drummer and THE best singer in the world and THE best violin player and THE best piano player…. Then I might piss my pants.” The girl jumped up and down feverishly, “I’m Kyla by the way!”
“Well.. I don’t know her last name.. and she didn’t mention any violin nor piano… but she made it very clear this was her band.” She said blankly, trying to scoot one way or the other to catch a glimpse of the so call “Best at everything” Ashley.
“You liar. You must be joking. No way in hell is Ashley Davies here.” The girl was close to hyperventilating when Spencer suggested that they go look for her… but to her disappointment, Ashley and Aiden were no where to be found.
