Days Of Future Past – (Chapter: 103)

“Well,” stuttered Brian, “the boss is out, and she should be here if we are going to butt heads over…”

Turning, Bree Storm gave him a steely gaze, “Did I happen to ask your opinion, Peluso?  No.  I mean no disrespect, but I’d like to hear a few things from the lawyers working on the case, is that all right?”  Her tone started sarcastic and ended sweet.  Brian blinked, then rubbed his chin.

                “I’ll get ‘em.”

“Who is, Potter?” asked Bree, sipping on a bottle of water that she’d procured from one of the very nice office assistants.  The same woman that had led her to Alex’s office some two weeks before, Zeva.  Her cool looks had turned to warm smiles, and Christina thought she seemed rather nice, for a supposed hard-nosed investigator.

Nick raised his hand tentatively, “I am.”

“This cop, that called you, how did he get your number?”

Silence fell over the room, and Steele gave Potter an odd look.  It was true; the rookie had only been in the office less than a week, how someone on Escobar’s payroll had gotten his phone number, wasn’t a mystery they’d thought to solve.

“Well?” asked Sabrina, walking around the room.  Jessica wanted to jump up and say something; she’d been working closely with Nick over the last two weeks.  He was a decent lawyer, and an all around nice person.  Much better than Steele, who seemed to have turned cold in the last week.  Sabrina knelt next to Nick, a soft popping sound was heard when she did so.  “Let me ask you something, Potter.”  The coolness in her voice returned, “Where did you work, before coming to the DA’s office?”

“Umm…  Vance, Navarro, and Pezinni,” stammered the young ADA.

“The same Vance, Navarro, and Pezinni that is representing Escobar?”

More silence in the room, and Steele finally spoke up, “Are you implying that Nick something to do with Mike’s death?”

“Am I?” was all that Bree would say, standing again, swinging her cane around, leaning on it and then swinging it up, pointing it at Nick.  “Are you?”
