Don’t Look Down – (Chapter: Five- Face Your Fears)

“Chill out Glen.” Spencer spoke, brushing past him as she made her way out the door.

“You sure your good to go to school? I don’t want you puking in my car.” Glen covered for his concern. He had to preserve his dignity somehow.

“I’ll be fine, just need some fresh air.” To be honest, she was tempted to turn and shuffle her sick self back inside. The acceleration of her heartbeat from running down the stairs made her feel light headed again, and she had to support herself on the handle of the door.

“Just be careful.” The blonde boy warned, climbing into the drivers side as Spencer mirrored his movements on the passenger side. Spencer ignored his last comment as she sat down, grateful for the reprieve.

Arriving on campus about 15 minutes early, Spencer spotted Ashley sitting by herself in front of the school. Now was her chance. She was out of the car before Glen had even come to a complete stop, her legs making wide strides as she made her way over. She came to a halt in front of the brunette, a bit short of breath and feeling that familiar wave of dizziness.

Looking up at the pale faced blonde, Ashley frowned, “Can I help you?” The only reason she asked was Spencer had yet to speak, only stand their with her mouth agape like one of those statues you see in art books.

“Ash, we need to talk.” Spencer began, hand lifting to rub the back of her neck.

“There’s nothing left to talk about.” Ashley spoke rising to her feet as she began to walk away. She didn’t want to deal with this now, she wasn’t ready to.

“Wait, just let me explain!” Spencer called after her, having to pick up a jog to try and catch up. It didn’t bode well for her equilibrium, and soon the entire world was spinning around her. She had to stop, because her ankles felt like they were melting as her knees buckled. She hit the concrete with a decidedly loud thump, loud enough for Ashley to turn around and rush over to her.

“Jesus, Spencer.” Ashley spoke, kneeling down beside her, “What the fuck is wrong with you?” She didn’t want to do this, show concern for her, but she knew she couldn’t just leave her lying here on the ground. It didn’t matter how much Spencer had hurt her, she could never do that.
