Don’t Look Down – (Chapter: Two- Not Who I Used To Be)
Ashley found herself grinding to a halt in the middle of the hallway, her skin itching as she tried to clear her thoughts. Her brain screamed at her to go back to Spencer, set things right while she still had the opportunity, while her heart pleaded for mercy. She wasn’t sure she could take it if Spencer said she didn’t want to see her anymore directly to her face.
“Poor Spencer, I told her that Ashley was no good. Now look what she’s done.” The sound of Paula’s voice carried down the hall as the brunette quickly ducked into a closet.
“She’ll be fine Paula, just needs a little time to heal.” Arthur spoke, ever the calm one.
“In more ways than one. Now that Aiden-“ Her praises of the dark haired boy were interrupted by her husband, who spoke in a stern tone.
“Don’t go down that road again. You and I both know that isn’t going to happen.” The voices were growing quieter, and soon Ashley couldn’t even hear them at all.
Ashley Davies you might not get another chance to talk to her alone. You get in there this instant. Her brain was getting mighty demanding, and had even seemed to take on a mothering tone. Odd. But, the stern order was enough to send the girl marching down the hall, shoving through the door with renewed determination. In fact, she had a bit too much gusto because the door made a fairly loud crack as it swung into the wall.
Spencer jumped at the loud sound, pulling her gaze away from the window to see a rather sheepish looking Ashley. It was hard to drag her stare away from the brunette but she forced herself, blue eyes shifting to stare in the opposite direction.
“Spencer…” Ashley spoke, slipping the door shut behind her with gentle care. She didn’t want a repeat of the door slam incident, which had managed to completely steal her thunder.
“Go away Ashley.” Spencer spoke, her words hauntingly monotone and emotionless.
“You know I can’t do that Spence….” Her voice was soft and delicate, just barely hinting at the fragility below the surface.

Words that broke my heart, but was in total agreement with: “I’m not who I used to be Ash… I can’t deal with all of this drama anymore. I need to take a break from you and get out of your life, so that I can have a chance to figure out mine.” She took a sharp intake of breath, feeling a pain in her chest. It was ironic she had a wound just above her heart, because it felt ever so appropriate that that little organ in her chest should need stitching. – Ashley needs to experience the consequences to her own actions so she will not be so eager to repeat them. I love this story! PMS
