We finally went inside, and we all decided we needed a much needed shower. I opted to go last so the others didn’t have to wait for me. Abbey went to take one first, so it was just me and Spence.

“Long day” Spencer said falling onto my bed.

“Yeah, you can say that again” I replied putting Mud on my bed, and she walked over to Spencer and laid on her. So Spencer started petting her.

“Why in the world is Stacey such an ass?” Spencer asked looking up at me.

“I don’t know. But I think it’s that she likes Abbey, and she is upset because she is too afraid to show how she feels about her.” I said with a shrug and I went to lie next to Spencer.

“I don’t think that’s a good enough excuse Ash.” She said while tracing the little lines on my comforter.

“You’re right, I know. Stacey was being an ass and there was no way she should have acted as a homophobic bigot, we have taught her better than that.” I said nudging Spencer.

“I totally agree with you.” She sighed

“At least Abbey is cool.” I said and Mud started to climb on me.

“Yeah, Abbey’s awesome like that, but she didn’t seem surprised when we kissed.” Spencer said looking at me.

“Yeah, well she knows I’m gay.” I replied and Spencer smiled.

“I thought she knew something she wasn’t telling me.” She said rolling over on her side so that she was fully facing me.

“Yeah, I told her this past summer. And she has been the best, unlike some people…” I trailed off thinking of the man that used to be my dad.

“What’s up with your dad? You guys used to be so close, and he would take you on trips and stuff but not anymore.” She asked pushing a piece of hair out of my face.

“Things happened, and people change Spence.” I sighed.

“What do you mean?” She asked scooting in closer to me and she started petting Mud.

“Well, when I first realized I was gay I needed to ask someone. I thought about telling Abbey first, but then I thought what if she’ll think I’m gross or something like that. Then it crossed my mind to tell my mom, but she was staying in work late because of a meeting. Then I decided to tell my dad, because we were so close, so I thought he would understand. But unfortunately that was the understatement of the year. He freaked out and started cursing, so I ran to my room. And I cried. So finally when my mom came home, I knew he told her as soon as she got home, so I was afraid that she would hate me too. But thankfully she didn’t I heard her run upstairs and she hugged me and she was there for me unlike my dad.” I glanced over at Spencer and realized that she had silent tear streaming down her face. So I reached up whipped them away with the pads of my thumbs.
