    Broken Memoir

A pale, raven-haired girl rested listlessly in the corner of a fading room with the light that would soon give way to darkness. Her lithe body was becoming weaker and weaker with every passing second, plagued with unrelenting anguish and confusion. The one human entity responsible was she, to an extent, and another. Dually responsible was none other than Aster, a beautiful, seductive goddess with smoldering eyes and an enchanting smile that could tame even the wildest of beasts, because she herself was unattainable by any stretch of the imagination.

The girl kept her gaze fixed on the one that tamed her heart, completely and totally tangled in her own thoughts.

‘Why?’ The teen wondered dolefully, glancing at her girlfriend, ‘Why do you have to always be so difficult, especially while I live so far away, and when we know we can’t see each other as often as before? Why can’t we, or more importantly, you, keep things simple?”

With every breath, Vivian’s heart was cracking and shattering into tiny shards of emptiness in the face of her girlfriend’s insensitivity. Aster, the one who supposedly understood Vivian’s every flaw, and every unspoken desire, left her defenseless and broken with an expression of selfishness. At this thought, Vivian’s shoulders slumped weakly. No matter how much more emotionally strong she had become since the time of the move, even a little fight with her girlfriend rattled her to the core and nearly tore apart what human cells remained.

‘What has made Aster become so arrogant and presumptuous?’ Vivian looked back at the serene, sleeping goddess resting on their bed and found her chin on the very top of one of her hands, suddenly allowing herself to explore a deep, uncharted sea of analyzation. ‘Even if it was just one quality that I love…loved about her, she was never so…’

Her lover’s delicate eyes opened almost on cue, feeling the scorching burn of Vivian's gaze on her bare back, full of fabricated innocence.

Vivian’s mind trailed off purposely, completely unaware of the waking goddess. She was afraid of what empty, broken roads thoughts like those would lead her down. Vivian remembered them, and they were far too painful to cross again.
