Love Knows No Age – (Chapter: 2 Reunion)

"Spencer, stop.  I don’t think that.  I mean I don’t think being gay is natural, but we’re not to judge, that’s God’s job.  I just want what’s best for you, that’s all."  My mom cried.

"And I’m old enough to figure out what that is for myself."  I state, going to walk out of the room.  As I pass my mom she puts her hand on my shoulder.

"I love you." She says looking down at me.  I can tell she means it by the look in her eye.  But she still doesn’t accept me being gay.

"I love you too."  I whisper as I leave the room, tears streaming from my eyes.

Coming out was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.  But it was also one of the smartest as well.  Since I came out things have gotten better between my mom and I.  She eventually stopped setting me up on dates with guys and tolerated my "decision," as she put it.  Eventually she accepted me for who I am.  It happened one day when she tried to set me up with her friend’s really sweet and smart daughter.  That’s right I said it, Paula Carlin tried to set her daughter up with a girl.  I couldn’t believe it either.  But I politely declined because I have Ash and she would’ve kicked my ass and the girl’s too.  Ash was there for me through the whole thing, even though she was in New York.  I waited to come out until she was at school because she still wasn’t out.  Well, not to my parents at least.  I think she was afraid to tell them because she thought they would try and keep us apart.  I can’t say that that thought hasn’t crossed my mind too.  So we kept our relationship a secret, but now that she’s coming home I’m not sure how long that will last.  At least I’ll be eighteen in a month and after that nothing else matters.

Right now I’m sitting at the airport waiting to pick up my girl.  I cannot tell you how excited I am.  It’s going to take absolutely all of my will power not to jump her right here in baggage claim.  Damn airport security, I wish I could see her as soon as she gets off the plane, like in the movies, but no such luck.
