Lover Awakened
Chapter Eleven
Spencer’s P.O.V.
Ashley and I were sitting on the outside steps of King High on a sunny, Friday afternoon enjoying the wonderful weather while I was waiting for my Mom to pick me up. She had offered to keep me company until my Mom arrived to pick me up. My Mom pulled up in her grey Volvo.
As I got up to go, Ashley got up as well. “Hello, Mrs. Carlin,” Ashley said. “How’s it going?” My Mom glared at Ashley and ignored her. Even though I told her Ashley and I had made amends, she still hasn’t forgiven Ashley for hurting me and for making me cry. My Mom was really good at holding a grudge especially when someone hurt me. She still talked about when Madison stole my juice box in second grade. Talk about holding on to a grudge.
I went to get in the car and Ashley went to my side of the car. “I’ll call you later, alright?” Ashley kissed me on my cheek. “It was nice seeing you, Mrs. Carlin.” Ashley was desperately trying to play nice with my Mom so my mother could forgive her for not realizing sooner what a great person I am. It was going to take a lot of work to convince my Mom that Ashley had changed.
My mom always had to get in the last word in so she told Ashley, “Don’t bother calling Spencer.” She then drove off leaving a flabbergasted Ashley behind and didn’t say another word to me while she drove to the grocery store.

I was lying down on my bed while I was talking to Ashley on my cell phone. “What did she mean by don’t bother, Spence?” I sighed at Ashley’s question. I really had hoped Ashley could let that comment slide and hoping this topic wouldn’t come up. She didn’t understand that my mother wasn’t the most forgiving woman and that I was more my father’s daughter than my mother’s in the forgiveness department.
I was nervously playing with my hair and I took a deep breath and was wondering if I could explain my mother’s behavior to Ashley. Could I do that? “It means that she’s just looking out for me and my heart. It also means that she doesn’t want me to go crying to her the next time our friendship falters or something. My Mom is worried about me giving you another chance. She doesn’t want to see me hurt and I’m not sure how she’ll handle it if I do get hurt again.”

I love this story. I like how Ashley had the courage to go talk to Paula about Spencer. I thought that was sweet. PMASAP!
