    COURT DEPUTY
    All rise

    JUDGE
    In the case of State versus Bradley, with the charge of statutory rape, the court finds the defendant, not guilty (Ohs and sighs)With the charge of sexual misconduct, the court finds the defendant guilty.

    (More oohs and sighs from members of the court, Annabelle’s head lowers. Simone holds the Buddhist beads. Michael’s head drops as well)

    JUDGE
    Ms. Bradley will serve 6 months in a women’s correctional facility followed by probation and mandatory therapy sessions. It is also mandated that Ms. Bradley shall have no interactions with the fore mentioned minor prior to the day of Annabelle’s 18th birthday. Any violations of this will result in a longer jail sentence and/or possible fines. Cout is adjourned.

    (All stand as the judge exits. Simone is cuffed and escorted out. Camera captures the look exchanged by Simone (still with the Buddhist beads) and Annabelle. Fade out. Cut to visiting hours at the prison. Michael is sitting awkwardly across from Simone)

    MICHAEL
    They’ve cleaned out your belongings. I had the school take everything to your parent’s old place. (awkward pause) The graduation was perfect, as always. Even Kristen graduated this year, and her parents brought her daughter to the ceremony. It was, it was something you should’ve shared in.

    SIMONE
    My thoughts were there. With all the girls.

    MICHAEL
    Yeah. (hesitant pause)When I was dropping the last of your things offf, I found this on the porch. (he pushes across a manila envelope which is addressed to ‘Simone Marcel Proust’ with a Thai stamp and no return address) I though you might want it.

    SIMONE
    Thank you Michael. (she reaches out for his hand, but he recoils before she can grab it) For everything.

    (Michael stands, and looks at Simone for a moment, turns and leaves. Simone opens the envelope and pulls out an 8×10 – it is her picture of the boy sitting on the front of a long boat – Simone flips the picture over. Written in black permanent marker is, “You were right, Phi Phi is beautiful. I didn’t need a new place to run off to, but rather to return to a special place I’ve known, this time with new eyes. The only thing missing is my ‘respiration and inspiration.’ I will wait.

    Love, A” – Camera shoots close up of Simone and pulls out showing the visiting area and other women with their visitors. FADE OUT)

    CREDITS

    (filled with stills/clips – ie: Kristen at Graduation, holding daughter. Annabelle at graduation. Annabelle’s birthday. Kat reuniting with her father. Newspaper clippings of Simone’s release. Annabelle in a long boat – anything to get people to stay through credits (perhaps even Danger Flowers & Lindsey Harper performing ALL OVER ME – because…)

    (At the en nd of the credits – FADE IN. Camera is shooting down as the blue crystal waves break on the sand. Slowly tilt up to see Annabelle is laying on a large beach blanket, wearing sunglasses & holding a cigarette in the air; pack of Thai cigarettes, guitar, journal all skewed about on the blanket. We see green pants with matching flip-flops walking from juist in frame towards Annabelle. Feet stop just short of the blanket)

    SIMONE
    (from out of frame – camera is focused on Annabelle) May I have a cigarette?

    (from above the camera is focused on Annabelle who sloly removes her glasses and looks straight up. Smiles. Camera pulls out and tilts down, revealing Simone standing over Annabelle. Slow fade out – as Annabelle sits up and Simone kneels down. Women stare long/hard at one another and hug, as fade out finishes)
