“Hey.” Ashley quickly brushes a couple of tears away, sitting up and looking at the door to find Kyla standing there. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah, I’m fantastic, can’t you see?” She nearly screams, her sarcastic tone blasting out.

“I’ll come back later…” Kyla says, about to close the door.

“No.” The older sister shakes her head and let out a sigh. “Sorry, come in.”

The younger girl shyly approaches the bed, taking a seat next to the other brunette. “I guess you talked to Spencer.” Ashley simply nods, looking down at her lap. “And?”

The older girl takes a deep breath. “She’s dating another girl.” Her voice was a mere whisper.

“What?” Kyla’s voice however was nearly a scream.

Ashley, however, simply nods. “Exactly, that was my reaction as well.”

Still dumbstruck, the younger girl scratches her head in confusion. “How? When?”

The older sister shrugs her shoulders. “Sorry, but I wasn’t exactly interested in any details.” She wipes the tears that began to fall again, just as her sister takes her in a hug.

“I’m sorry.” Kyla says, brushing some locks of hair out of her sister’s face.

“Don’t be.” Ashley says with a stronger voice. “It’s not over. I’m not giving up!” She shakes her head in denial.

“Ash… I don’t want you to get hurt.”

“Maybe I need to.” She says looking down at her sister. Before any of the girls could say anything, Ashley’s cell phone began blasting. She picked it up and rolled her eyes, pressing the ignore button.

“Aiden?” Kyla asks, being replied with a brief nod. “You still talk to him?”

Ashley promptly shakes her head. “Not really. You?”

“Not at all.” Maybe it was a sister thing, but Ashley could see a bit of hurt in the eyes of her sister.

“I’ll see you later.” The older brunette said while standing up.

“Where are you going?” The younger girl said jumping up her feet as well, the other girl already half way out of the room.

“The Carlins. I’m not giving up, Kyla.” Ashley said picking up her keys and exiting her bedroom.

“Ash, don’t…” It was too late though. Ashley was already running down the stairs.

When the two siblings arrived at home, dinner wasn’t served yet. They weren’t surprised, their dad started picking up their mother at work for the past few months and always arrived too late to serve dinner at their usual time. The unusual thing was that their parents weren’t even home yet.
