No One's Gonna Love You Like I Do – (Chapter: How it all began..)

Today was the day I have been dreading for about two months. My first day at King High School. To say I was scared would be an understatement, because you hear the stories of people being bullied and picked on, and that had made me a little uneasy. I felt a little better about the whole situation because my high school wasn’t big, considering other high schools in the city. I felt at ease knowing that I had three great friends; Jen, Heather, and Leia, and I knew I could count on. We had been friends since we were born, and I felt comfortable that nothing was going to change that.

So..my first day is going alright. It is weird getting used to block scheduling because classes are an hour and a half, and that is a LONG time to stay sitting listening about one subject. Given, it is the first day, but it just makes the 90 minutes go by that much longer because nobody knows anyone, and my friends that I actually do know aren’t in any of my classes, which sucks, and now I have to sit at the front of the class because the teachers are too lazy to memorize all of our names if we aren’t alphabetical. I’m in math right now, and my teacher, Coach Thomas, is at least trying to get to know us by doing an ice breaker. (I hate ice breakers because even if I do know the answer, I still tense up and don’t know what to say when it gets to me.) So my teacher goes up and down the columns of desks asking what sport everyone plans on playing during their “high school career”..(another thing that I don’t really get, don’t call it a career if you don’t plan on paying me for it and isn’t a career supposed to be what you do forever and a passion..high school is neither my passion or do I want to stay in it forever.)..as he goes on I start to notice that everyone has decided to play something. All the guys in the back of the room say football, some say baseball, most of the girls say they are going to go out for the cheerleading squad or be on the dance team..and then it gets to me. I hadn’t really thought about playing a sport in high school, I know how to play sports, but I hadn’t really thought about it. I figured go to school, make good grades, go home, do homework. There was no room for extracurricular activities in my schedule. So, my teacher asks me again, “what do you plan on playing during high school?” and I just blankly look up at him and tell him “tennis?” because I though it would be easy and how many people really take tennis seriously in high school. He gets this look on his face that looks like I was Santa Claus and I just gave him a puppy for his fifth Christmas or something. He starts almost jumping up and down and tells me ecstatically that he is the girls tennis coach and it is his first year, and he is really excited because they haven’t been good in the past. That was the highlight of my day. He tells me to come to a meeting after school tomorrow in his classroom so that I can meet the team and get some information on practices and all of that. The rest of the day is boring and goes by as usual. I get home and my mom asks me what was new and exciting today and I tell her “that I’m supposedly going to play tennis”. Me and my mom are best friends and we like to do a lot together, and that means we have some of the same interests. To say she was impressed was an understatement. I personally think she had the same schedule planned out as I did..school, homework, sleep.

The next day at school was just as boring and awkward as the first. I had my four other classes and got my syllabus, and just sat not even really trying to make friends. I had my three friends who were nowhere to be found, yet again, in any of my classes today. The day wore on, and I was a little excited to meet the other members of the team. 3:20 finally came, and I had two days of high school under my belt. I gathered my things from my locker that I needed and walked down the hall to Coach Thomas’s classroom. I walked in and there were already two other people in the classroom. One of the girls was dark skinned, and looked really nice. The other one was Latino and looked real bitchy. I went to sit by the nice looking girl, looking down at my oh so interesting shoes, because I didn’t want to disturb her. She mumbled something, and I looked up with a quizzical look on my face. Just as I looked up I saw the most beautiful creature walk into the room, and I really hoped she was on the tennis team and not just delivering a note or something. I heard the girl next to me mumble something again, and I looked at her with more seriousness, she said “Hi, my name is Chelsea”. I continued to look at the most breathtakingly gorgeous girl that walked in, she had long blonde hair and beautiful blue eyes with just a hint of green. I looked back at Chelsea and mindlessly said “uh…huh?..oh…my..my name is Ashley”.
