“Oh yeah, I’m groovy,” Ashley said with an obviously fake smile.

“Yeah, she’s uh…groovy. We’re good. We just got back from doing some volunteer work at the elementary school a couple streets over. How are you? How’s Ben?”

“Honey, we’ll discuss that when your company leaves…when will that be, by the way? Soon I hope, you have homework to do.”

Ashley found it amazing how much disdain she could have for the woman who gave birth to the girl she loved so much.

“Mom, we’re doing our homework together, now if you’ll excuse me…some of us still live here,” Spencer said, her hand finding Ashley’s as she walked through the front door, Paula quickly following.

“Spencer, this is temporary, ok? Your father and I are trying to make it work!”

“Whatever you say, I have homework to do…remember?” Spencer replied as she made her way with Ashley up the stairs and to her room.

“Wow, Spence. You really have some balls when it comes to dealing with your mother. I’m impressed,” Ashley said as she flopped onto Spencer’s bed.

“Yeah, well…she leaves me no choice. She’s such a hypocrite. She expects us to all be so perfect and so righteous and she’s the one having the affair. It’s all so…”

“Scandalous?” Ashley replied, nodding her head dramatically.

“Uh…”

“So, what about that homework, Spence?” Ashley said, making her way to the edge of the bed in order to be in touching range of the blonde.

“We should probably get started, huh?”

“Oh yeah, totally. We have a lot of work to do,” Ashley replied, rolling her eyes.

“Ok, as I said before, you have to at least pretend to be working.”

“You have my word. My lips are sealed.”

“That’s not exactly what I had in mind,” Spencer said, bending down to capture Ashley’s lips with her own, her tongue barely touching the tip of Ashley’s before she pulled away, “Homework.”

“Of course,” Ashley said, giving herself all of five seconds before she pounced on her usually studious girlfriend.

“Ashley!” Spencer said with a squeal of delight, “I’m serious!”

“Ok, ok….”

Spencer stared at the girl, her left eyebrow raised.

“Ok! I said ok! What else do you want from me? A limb?”

Spencer spread her books across the bed, allowing for a makeshift workspace. Ashley followed suit, allowing for a makeshift distraction. And it actually worked for awhile. Spencer managed to get a few Algebra problems done, while Ashley busied herself with the chapter in her Biology book all about reproduction.

“I wanna take you out on Friday,” Ashley said, interrupting the study session.

“Oh yeah?” Spencer replied, her eyes still on her book.

“Yeah.”

“We’ve got a double date with Clay and Chelsea on Friday, remember?”

“Oh, that’s right. And after?”

“Afterwards I’m all yours,” Spencer said, leaning forward to peck Ashley lightly on the lips.

“Ooooh, sounds good,” Ashley said with a grin. She slid forward to kiss Spencer, but her cell phone started ringing from her purse.

Ashley jumped off the bed and answered her phone.

“Ashley, this is your mother. I need you home immediately.”

“Ok…but why?”

“Erin’s mother is here. I’m not going to discuss this over the phone. Just be here within the hour,” Ashley’s mother replied before abruptly hanging up.

Ashley stared at the phone for several moments before Spencer finally spoke.

“What is it? What’s wrong?”

“Erin’s mom is at my house…and I have no idea why, but my mother wants me home immediately.”

The blonde’s heart dropped just at the mention of the girl’s name, “Oh.”

“So, I guess I have to go.”

“Yeah…yeah….ok. I guess I’ll see you tomorrow?”

“I’ll give you a ride,” Ashley said, before walking quickly out of Spencer’s room, completely unaware of the situation she was about to be so greatly involved in.
