Nothing But A Heartache – (Chapter: Two: Fate)

    Nothing But A Heartache

    Chapter Two

    SPENCER’S POV:

Have you ever met someone and knew from the first moment your eyes met their’s that, somehow, some way, they were going to change your life? Some people might call this love at first sight. Me, I don’t know what you would call it. I guess I would call it fate.

    8 MONTHS EARLIER…

Kyla: I think you’re really going to like it here.

Kyla is giving Spencer a tour of the apartment complex.

Kyla: Here’s the pool. I don’t use it much. I just come out here to work on my tan. Oh but you have to be careful what time of day you come to swim. If you come too early there’s a chance you are going to catch Mr. Woodrow in a Speedo, which wouldn’t be so bad if he wasn’t 84 years old.

Spencer: Yikes. I’ll definitely make a mental note of that. Thanks for showing me around Kyla. This place is like heaven compared to my last apartment.

    Kyla: That bad huh?

Spencer: Let’s just say some people had roaches as house pets.

    Kyla: Okay that’s disgusting.

Kyla and Spencer start walking up the stairs to their apartments.

Kyla: So do you still have a lot of stuff left to unpack?

Spencer: Yeah I’ve been crawling over boxes for the last couple of days.

Kyla: Do you need some help?

Spencer: Yeah that would be great. Thanks Kyla.

Kyla: No problem, I’ll just bring my sister Ashley over and make her do all the work. Speaking of Ashley, she should be home, why don’t I introduce you.

Kyla opens the door to her open and walks in with Spencer following in behind her.

    Kyla: Ashley?

    Ashley: Yeah.

Kyla: Come here I want you to meet someone.

Ashley walks out of her bedroom and into the living room where Kyla and Spencer are waiting.

Kyla: Ashley this is Spencer. Spencer this is my sister/roommate Ashley.

Ashley gives Spencer a courteous smile and sticks out her hand for Spencer to shake.

Spencer’s thoughts: I probably stood there for ten minutes staring at the girl in front of me. Okay it wasn’t ten minutes, probably like 10 seconds. Anyway, I had the strangest feeling when I met her, I couldn’t place my finger on it though. It was like I had seen her a hundred times before but couldn’t remember where. Plus, she was really, really hot.

Spencer shakes out of her daze and finally takes Ashley’s hand. Ashley looks at Spencer with a hint of worry.

    Ashley: You okay?

Spencer: Yeah, sorry. Have we met before?

Ashley: No I don’t believe so. I think I would have remembered.

Kyla: Ashley, Spencer just moved in a couple doors down from us. And I told her we would help her unpack later.

Ashley: Yeah sure. (to Spencer) By the way when Kyla said we will help you unpack she means I will help you unpack and she will sit there checking to see what TV channels you have. So it looks like it just you and me.

    Spencer: Sounds great.

Ashley: Well I’ve got to go, I’m headed to the gym.

Kyla: Again? You went earlier this morning.

Ashley: Yeah and now I’m going again. Spencer it was nice meeting you. What time do you want us to come over?

    Spencer: Umm, six is good.

    Ashley: We’ll be there.

Ashley picks up her gym bag that was sitting by the door.

Ashley: I’ll see you two later.

Kyla and Spencer both wave and Ashley leaves.

Kyla: Spencer, Ashley left, you can’t stop staring at the door now.

    Spencer: I wasn’t staring.

Kyla: You were totally staring. You know, Ashley is gay. And your gay. And now your neighbors. I think sparks are going to fly.

    Spencer lightly laughs.

    Spencer: Yeah, maybe it’s fate.
