Nothing Gold Can Stay – (Chapter: One- Shout, Shout, Let It All Out)

“Fuck me?” I repeat, flabbergasted by her choice of words. Megan appears as if she is getting ready to hold me back as others scoot out of the way between me and Madison, “No, fuck you.” I say the words with such venom and emphasis that they practically drip from my lips. Everyone looks uncomfortable at this point, completely confused that the ‘dynamic duo’, who had never been witnessed arguing before, were at this standoff.

“I am so disappointed in you right now.” I finish, voice softening as I shake my head slightly side to side. The words hit right where I intended as I watch her expression fall from one of anger to regret. With that I turn, stalking away with my hands in my pockets, heading towards my car because I don’t know where else to go. I can hear Megan jog to catch up with me, just walking by my side in silence for a moment as she probably contemplates if speaking will get her head bitten off by yours truly.

“You okay?” She attempts finally, watching me as I rub my face in an effort to chase the bad feelings away.

“Yeah….No…. I guess.” I shift my eyes over to her, before looking down at my feet and exhaling. No matter how upset I was it still felt good to get that rant out of my head and out into the open.

“What was that about?” Was her next inquiry, a bit bolder due to my rather sedated response.

“I don’t know. Well, I do. It has been building for a while I suppose. She just has been rubbing me the wrong way for the past year. Between ditching me to hang out with some cheersluts and then just being an a-hole I have just gotten sick of it. We got into this big fight a while back, when I demanded she quit using the word gay negatively. She agreed not to and didn’t for a while, but now it’s like she doesn’t even care.”

“Wow, I had no idea. That’s messed up though.” Megan spoke, looking away from me as we strolled along. The adrenaline that had been coursing through my veins was slowing and I was calming down bit by bit.
