Nowheresville – (Chapter: The Morning After: Chapter 7B)

"Why’d you cry in the first place?"

"It’s a long story. You don’t wanna hear it." Spence says.

"Yes I do. If it’s important enough to make you cry then I don’t care how long it is, I need to know about it." I say reaching over to take her hand. She looks up at me, her eyes gray, I see her take a breath and then she starts.

"Well, it was last year and… school was almost over. All year I didn’t feel the same. Not since my birthday. It wasn’t really something I could explain at least not at first. But then one day I was on the computer and this pop-up with a rainbow triangle came up. It said ‘Are you a’… ‘lesbian’. That’s when it hit me, like a ton of bricks. I knew it, I knew why when Aiden tried to kiss me it wasn’t like i thought. I knew it was because I didn’t like boys." She pauses looking down into the water.

"Wait! Aiden tried to KISS you?" I ask. No wonder she got all definvise when he called. He said he didn’t really know her! That asshole!

"Yea. He was my first boyfriend. I just went out with him cause that’s what I thought I was supposed to do. So me and my two friends were at the skating rink and we were just messin’ around. Katelyn and Kristey come up to me, I’m just going around the ring, and Katelyn asks me "Are you a lezbo? Cause that’s the only reason someone would dump Aiden." So, I just say yes. I mean, I thought, they’re my friends they won’t care. Boy, was I wrong! Kristey just looks at me for a minute, then takes off with Katelyn calling me a… dyke. I just went back to my bench. They passed by me laughing and I told them not to say anything. The next day when I woke up my stomach burned, bad. I faked sick that day and the next one. Friday when I got to school everyone stared at me, they mumbled and whispered. This one boy threw a book at me and kept doing it until I finnaly hid under my desk. Some kids didn’t even bother throwing them they just dropped them on my head when I was at my locker." Spencer started to cry and clouds came from nowhere.

"When 6th grade ended I decided I wasn’t going to like that any more. But then you came and…" she whispered. Now I want to take it back. I wanna be able to like you.

"Spence, I’m so sorry. I didn’t know. Don’t cry cause then I’ll cry and we’ll both be useless." I lift her head up with two fingers and wipe her tears away with my thumb. "It’s ok Spence, maybe you’re not alone." I whisper unsurely.

"Yes I am. I’m the only one. At least almost everyone forgot over summer." Spence says her eyes going back to blue.

I tuck her golden locks away from her face and count the freckles on her cheeks. "What if… I… like girls too?" I bearly whisper.

Again Spencer’s eyes change, only this time to cornflower blue. "NO! You can’t! That will just mess everything up! Because then…." Spencer shreiks jumping to her feet turning away from me.

"Then what, Spence, tell me?" I say putting my hand on her shoulder.

"I won’t be able to stay right! I won’t be able to keep THAT part of me locked up!" she says turning back to me.

"Well, I don’t want you to!" I grab Spencer by her waist pulling her into me. Lightening flashes in her now electric blue eyes and thunder sounds as I kiss her. The wind pick up blowing our hair in wild directions.

    "We better go!" Spence bellows.

"No put your hands on the rock channel the power. We’re supposed to share it." I yell over the wind. We get on our knees and put our hands on the ground, our fingertips touching. I feel a current course through my body and into Spencer’s and from hers to mine. Then just as it came the wind left and the clouds went away.

"Woah! That was awesome!" we say in unison.

"We really should go now. My dad’s probably mad that we weren’t around for breakfast." Spence says taking my hand. I knew she was special but I didn’t know she was gonna be my soulmate.

"Ok" I say. Soulmates! My mom can’t do anything to keep us apart now.
