Over the Edge – (Chapter: WHY HIM?)
“I know Ash, I know.”
Oh my God, I let the love of my life down. And her family. Her mom was finally starting to warm up to us too. God why did he have to do this? Why is Aiden such an idiot? I hate him. I. Hate. Him.
Glen got us to the hospital in record time. We were meeting Mrs. and Mr. C there. Mrs. C was trying to get info out of Ben. God I hate that guy too. “Glen! Over here!” We went over to Mr. C and he pulled all of us into a hug. “I’m so glad you’re all ok!… Wait, where’s Spencer and Clay?” I can’t hold back anymore. I fell to the floor sobbing hysterically. Mr. C didn’t understand what was going on. Madison sat down and held me as I cried. Glen was holding Chelsea close. “Dad, Spencer… she got shot. She’s somewhere in here. But Clay… He… He got shot a few times dad. He saved Chelsea, but… He…” Mr. C completely blanked out. Mrs. C came over and kept asking all these questions. I got so fed up with her asking, I didn’t mean to lash out. “SPENCER GOT SHOT! OK!? I TRIED TO SAVE HER, I REALLY DID! BUT IT WAS TOO LATE!” She just looked at me, emotionless. She kept opening her mouth and then closing it again. Glen stood up and sat Chelsea down in one of the chairs as Madison took over comforting her. “… Ashley… wait. Where’s Clay?” “Paula, you need to sit down.” Mr. C was taking over? Wow, that man never fails to amaze me. Glen took me by the arm and walked us outside. We could hear Mrs. C saying “no it’s not possible”. Glen sat down and offered me a seat next to him.
“Ash, I know you tried to protect Spencer from getting hurt. Honestly, I don’t blame you for her getting hurt. No one knew that Aiden was gona pull that on you.” I couldn’t say anything. For once in my life I felt like Glen was the older brother I never had. “Listen Ashley, what I’m trying to say is this, I’ve learned a lot about Spence since we moved here, and I have never seen her as happy as she has been with you. I want you to know that I will do everything I can to help you guys out. I want the two of you to be together. I strongly believe that you two were meant to be.” By this time I was crying again. Glen wrapped his arm around my shoulders and held me tight, making me feel comfortable around him. “Glen… do you think… do you think she and I will be okay after this?” He looked up at the sky and I followed his gaze. “Ashley, I’ve never been able to see the stars in L.A. like I did in Ohio. When I see you and Spence together, I see stars in both of your eyes. I think that if you are determined to get over this, then you and Spencer will be perfectly fine. Yes, it will be really hard, especially with Spence after the whole Aiden thing, but you two will work it out. I promise you. Now come on, lets go inside and see what’s going on.”

I love how Glen was being really cool with Ash saying he knew it wasn’t her fault…
