Reluctance – (Chapter: A mistake and redemption)

"Can I get another shot?" I ask no one.

Then it all goes to black and I have no idea what is going on…. and then……

I wake up with a massive headache and have no fucking clue what is going on. The sun is beating in my eyes and I can’t open them any wider than a slit. I regret doing so and just close them again. I try and sit up but there’s a hand on my chest holding me down. I grab it and throw it off and sit up. I quickly fall back down and I hear a laugh…… Spencers laugh.

    "You should have listened."

    "Listened to what," I groan.

"To what I told you." she says as if I knew.

"And what did I tell you?"

"Do you mean what I told you? Cause if so then I tol you that you should just stay laying down. I remember when I got drunk that the next morning was hell, especially when I tried to sit up."

"Listen to you, all wise about drinking and mornings after. Trust me, I’ve been drunk more than you and I know what I’m doing."

"Oh, right, deffensive Ashley has come out for a few rounds," she gets off the bed.

"So says you," I snap back at her.

"Look, I just came by because some girl answered your cell phone and said that you were piss ass drunk and she didn’t know where to take you. Oh, and by the way, she wants you to call her," she says with jealousy. I laugh.

    "Why so jealous?"

    "I am not jealous."

"Right……. now do me a favor and tell me who this girl is…… cause I don’t even remember."

"I dunno, pretty, long brown hair, green eyes, dark skin."

    "Still not ringing any bells."

"Her name was," she pauses to look at a napkin and then throws at me, " Alexa Verline." She rolls her eyes and I laugh again. She’s very cute when she’s jealous.

"You know……. why do you even care?"

"It must be the disease that’s going around. What’s the name for it?"

    "How should I know?"

"Cause you must have it. It causes stupidity."

"Ha ha Spencer, your sarcasm is just what I need."

"Oh, really? I thought it was alcohol and one night stands?"

"You’re still stuck on that?" I know that was a can I shouldn’t have opened and I literally smack myself.

"Well, you cheated on me…… remember? Or did you forget that too?"

    "Spencer….. look-"

"Fuck you Ashley, I’m sorry I was ever worried about you."

She walks out and I can hear her slam my front door. I nearly kick myself for what I had said. She hasn’t talked to me in weeks and I go and blow it. Why was I so defensive? I was the one who screwed up, so why in the world did I treat her so badly? I blame the alcohol and the hang over, it’s always that. Yup.

I smack myself again. I always do that, put the blame on someone else. It’s not fare to Spencer when I do that. I hurt her, I did. I also ruined the one good thing in my life that I should never of had, and now I don’t have it.

I get up and go to my mothers alcohol cabinet and pul out the Vodka. I take the top off and look at it for a second. I then remember something siomeone said to me last night ‘Alcohol is only bad when you abuse it’. I shrug at first…… then actually think about it and almost put the cap back on. I think twice of it and just say screw and start to chug a little down. I cough after I’m down and feel as if I am going to puke. That’s how it always is with me and my first tastes of hard alcohol. It never burns, just makes me gag a little.

Soon I am wasted again and decide that I should probably call this girl and find out what had happened last night.
