Sliding Doors – (Chapter: Chapter 38 & 39 Last Chance and I'll Follow You)

In all honesty, I didn’t want to be away from her either, but I thought that she should spend time alone with her sister and the guy who had always been such a big part of her life despite the brief stint in high school where they didn’t talk.

But in the end, we took Aiden out to dinner and spent hours talking about him and Ashley’s old relationship, their renewed friendship, his future with Kyla, and what he wanted out of the next four years of college.

Both Ashley and I were quiet while he talked about his future plans. We held hands and bowed our heads as we listened to his excitement. I felt Ashley squeeze my hand hard and it gave me the strength to hold back the tears the conversation brought.

I lost my battle, however, when Ashley finally spoke up to her longtime best friend.

Ashley: “Aid, I have a really big favor to ask.” She said, finally meeting his eye with great trepidation in her voice.

Aiden: “Sure, Ash.” He said easily as he leaned back in the booth. We had been at the restaurant for hours, in no hurry to end the evening.

Ashley: “Make me a promise?” Her eyes pleaded, causing him to sit up in his chair and narrow his eyes at her.

Aiden: “Anything, Ash.” His gaze drifted to me, questioningly. Her tone was so serious.

Ashley: “Promise me, that no matter what, you’re always there for Kyla. I know that you guys are having a hard time right now, but please, promise me that no matter what happens, you’ll still keep in touch with her and look out for her?”

    Aiden: “Ash…what’s going on, I…”

Ashley: “For me, can you promise?” Aiden saw my tears and heard the desperation in Ashley’s voice. His face was full of concern, however, he just nodded slowly, never looking away from Ashley’s begging eyes.

Aiden: “I promise you, Ashley, no matter what, I’ll always be there Kyla.”

Ashley: “Thank you.” She barely whispered out, her own tears threatening to fall. She then quickly changed the subject and we spent another two hours just reminiscing and joking around. That night we actually spent it in Ashley and Aiden’s dorm room. I could tell that she didn’t want the night to end and that was further made evident when she engulfed him in a tight hug, told him that she loved him, and that he was her best friend.

    1. I know your intent in writing this probably wasn’t to make the readers cry, and I’m not a very emotional person as it is…but I have to admit, I shed a tear (or two). I hope that one day you write a book and then you tell all of us about it so we can read it and love you even more. This has been an incredible journey, and thank you, thank you, thank you for leading us all through it.That’s all the sentimentality I have in me. =]

    2. dammit Stix don’t you ever make me cry like that again ! As soon as the song started i started !! Great ending to a wonderful amazing story of soulmates.. I absolutely Adore you and you’re writing !!!!! Just don’t make me cry by the way you are the 3rd woman to ever make me cry ok more bawl like a baby!

    3. Semper amemus – our love is forever … This was such a thought-provoking, evocative story. I was enthralled from first read and I’m so awed by your talent. “you’ll stand still with me once you’re caught” my fave line. I knew it was ending but I wasn’t prepared for the actual … end. I’m going to miss it so much! For a while there, you had me worried but you ended it on such a perfect note and now I have to sigh – content in the knowledge that just like in HP, “All is well.” Thanks for sharing this story with us. You know just how much it means to me. Now take your place on center stage for a well-deserved standing ovation. “Author! Author!” Bravo! Congratulations! “Your profession is not what you do to earn a living. It’s what you were put on this earth to do” Vincent van Gogh. ‘Nuff said.

    4. wow. okay one thing, i absolutely NEVER cry when I read anything, watch anything or etc, I have my emotions on lockdown if you might say but this made me bawl hysterically. congratulations! haha. I loved this ending. Amazing job. Please continue writing for a looong time, you have a wonderful gift:)

    5. Omg omg omg OH MY GOD!!!!!! First of all, this is my favorite story ever in FF history!!!! The whole physics behind it is amazing and I’m soooooooooooo sad it’s over but yu got me fucking crying when spencer fell in the lake!! But got me crying tears for joy when they were alive!!!! I think yu should make atleast ONE more chapter.. I really wanna know what happens in the future with them and their wedding and their family!!! This story will be missed !!!!!

    6. Holy shit that was intense as all fuck! I loved every fucking page of this story. I’m not an emotional person whatsoever and never cry about anything, but for some reason your story cuts me to the core and I can’t help but let the tears fall. I think I started tearing up when Ashley began singing but it got a whole lot worse when Spencer fell through the ice. I’m so glad they made it out together with the promise of a future. By far the most beautiful tale ever written and it just goes to show that love really can conquer all. Thank you so much for bringing this story to everyone and touching everyone’s soul. This kind of love is what people go throughout life searching for and it’s such an honor to read what love should be. Thank you so much and can’t wait to read more from you. Consider me a life-long fan!

    7. Damnit. I was all emotional already when I started reading this and I knew, KNEW, it was going to get to me. Lol. This story was amazing and I loved every moment of it!! Great job. :)

    8. alright well let me start by saying wtf for making me actually shed a tear (or two)!! i mean seriously, i always silently chuckle at people who cry from books because 1, its a book and not real. and 2, its not like you’re actually seeing it happen, just reading! BUT THEN I JUST CRIED!!! when spencer was telling ashley to get away oh my goodness just thinking about it right now! so, my point is… crying is now allowed :) hahaso anyways, on to the actual story; that was so amazingly good. i was definitely not expecting this type of ending, but i was secretly hoping that this is the ending you would give us! so while im so sad that this story is over, im completely satisfied with the ending, it was perfect! i really dont know where you come up with some of the stuff you do, but its all brilliant. i started reading this in the middle of the night and i was so tired i told myself i would only read the first page, and then ONLY the second.. and then i just couldnt stop reading it! this whole story has been amazing from the very first chapter and i feel privileged for having read it :) so thank you! you are a true master of spashley

    9. my God stix..that was AMAZING..i do NOT cry..like hardly ever..but i have to say my eyes welled up….it’s truly been a pleasure reading this story..i can not thank you enough for sharing this beautiful story.. :D

    11. That was awesome I had tears in my eyes when Ashley was hugging Kyla the way you worte it was beautiful. I can’t wait to see what you come up with next you ROCK!!!

    12. I know i might hv said i’d be sad, for this being the end, sometime BUT…the truth is: i’m not! I’m actually smiling here. Ok ok yea this is the end but i’m happy to hv read the great ending of a fantastic story!! I fell in love with this one since the very beginning, and i’m glad i stuck around to see SD grow and now…end.Oh god i still hv THE smile (my friend’s snapping his fingers at me as if i’d just spaced out ahahah)…well, it’s more like having my mouth slightly agape, like when u say ‘whoa’ and ur jaw doesn’t close and ur lips curl up a bit and… Lol ok ok i’m stopping now. Thanks u for all the hours u spent on this story. Thanks for sharing it with us.

    13. you’re a real pain in my ass you know that? welll you already know you’re amazingggg and so was this story, i know it was hard for you to write but it was truuly amazinggg. this is the first story i read of yours and i was hooked to you from the beginning, so without this story we probably wouldn’t have ever talked so good job! hahaha jk, babe i gotta start drinkingg now, i think i have a problem cause it seems that i’m always saying those words to you… hopefully my mets don’t embarress your boys tooooo much tonight…we’ll see. i miss you.

    14. omg i love it i thought they were going to die really i did this story was great no better than great thank you for writing this its made me want to write one of my own which i have started you did a get job with this sorty and this last chapter made me cry

    15. Got around to reading the first fanficton you wrote on here. lol Well I must say it’s wonderful! Just like the other two. I wish you will wrote more fanfictons. The story It very good and I’m happy that there was a happy ending. I hate sad endings!

    16. I don’t know where to start. I’m always avoiding sad stories. Real life is painful enough so why should I also read about pain? But I’ll never, ever regret reading this one. In a last five years I cried maybe 7-9 times. This two chapters made me cry all the way through them. The ending was perfect, and the whole story was perfect. It was a pain in the ass for me many times because of overhelming drama and my troubles with fluent reading in english. But this story trully changed my life. You gave me a lot to think about my life, about who I am, what is important for me, where I’m going with my future. And above the whole sadness about how weak and unsolid our life is you gave me hope. And for that I want to thank you. You just made one (deep in closet by cruel, close-minded, eastern-european people)girl belive that she can last through all the shit that life is throwing at her. You can be proud of yourself. You are a great writer. :)

    17. I promised you that I would read it. And I did I can now say that trying to hide tears in the middle of class is not easy. This was really the best chapter ever. I cant believe that you ever doubted it. This was not just a story it was a legend. It was an amazing journey. I have to thank you so much because this was the kind of story that I would wait to see an update and have a smile plastered on my face when I see it. I am sad to know that it is over but I think that you could have not ended it any better. Once again thank you. Sincerely, Jessica.

    18. Just wow. I was so ready to hate you when I thought it was the end for them, but I can’t now since you gave us a happy ending =) Took me awhile to read though; can’t read too well with blurred vision. This story was truly amazing and so are you. You have defo earned some cyber kisses and maybe some hugs to lol.

    19. that was fucking brilliant. You’re writing is one of a kind and I’m sad to see the story end, but couldn’t have asked for a better ending. Thanks for sharing your talent with all of us!

    20. oh my god. this was so beautifully written. For a while I thought you were actually going to kill Spashley, which would be…well kind of bitter sweet. but thank god you didn’t. this was so amazing. SO GOOD. …now i’m going re ready it and possible cry again.

    21. my dear stix it was my pleasure to be a comment whore! sorry it took so long to get around to reading this but hey computer crashes happen right. anyway loved the entire story sooo much and when they went in the water I was on the edge of my seat balling but then you managed to turn it around by defying all odds (just like the story itself). just wow. I am a lifelong fan stix and it has been a pleasure and an honor to go through this journey with you. cannot wait for everything else that you write in the future. I’m sure madam juliet would see great things for you! and I do too. truly fantastic job, kudos!
