South of Somewhere – (Chapter: Chapter 4- A Friend In Need Is A Friend Indeed)
“Look Ash, no matter what you and Spencer always seem to choose each other. I know that first hand. I’m sure she will be willing to be with you, you just have to give it some time.” How ironic it was that he was advising her on her relationship with someone else. Someone who he couldn’t be happier to get out of the picture, “You know how stubborn she is, she probably just needs some space for a while.”
Ashley had been listening silently but attentively, wondering if she should really admit her greatest fear to Aiden, “But Aiden, I am worried. What if, while she is away from me, she realizes that I’m not worth all of this trouble and moves on. I don’t think I could take seeing her with another girl and still be ‘just a friend’.” Aiden merely shook his head, his hand resting on Ashley’s shoulder, “That isn’t going to happen. It is impossible, you are incredible Ash, no one in their right mind would leave you.”
Ashley didn’t look so sure, “Yeah? Tell that to everyone else in my life.” Heaving a sigh he watched her, before he looked away, feeling uncomfortable. “Anyways, how are things between you and Kyla?” Inquired Ashley, “She hasn’t said anything about you this whole week. Actually she has pretty much been avoiding me.” Aiden shrugged, “They are what they are. She hasn’t answered my calls since the ‘incident’ and I think it’s pretty much better that way. I think you qualify as the last girl I have single-handedly alienated out of my life, and even that was a close one.”
Bringing up the conversation they had that night made her skin want to itch, her face turning away from him as she remained silent. “I miss her.” She said, still looking away with that distant expression still on her face, “Kyla?” Half-teased Aiden with a smirk, eyes scanning the outline of her face. “Shut up.” She laughed, tossing a pillow at him before standing up, “I just hope your right is all… If you aren’t…” She let the comment slip away, arms folding over her chest as she turned to face him.
“I’m right.” He assured, rising to his feet as his gaze shifted towards the door, “I should go, I need to get to the gym.” Making his way over to the door he glanced back at her one more time, waiting for some kind of objection before lowering his eyes and exiting her rather large home. “Bye.” Ashley whispered after him, still a bit lost in thought as she turned away from where he’d left and moved into the kitchen. Time. She had to give her time, which meant she had to be patient, which was most certainly not a value she held near and dear to her heart.
