Stormy Horizons – (Chapter: Escape From Reality)
Ch. 6- Disaster in Paradise
I couldn’t believe what my mom had just said! The whole family stood there amazed at this discovery. I didn’t think anyone was going to speak, but my dad was the first one to break the silence. The moment of silence ended as he said “Kids, go to your rooms. Your mother and I are going to have a talk.” Glad for the excuse to leave, all of us hurried off to our respective rooms. When we reached my room, Ashley attempted to make me feel more comfortable.
“Look at the bright side: We can finally relate to her.” She said attempting to make the mood a bit less tense,
“You know what? As mad as I am, I really don’t care. My dad will get a divorce and I won’t need to deal with her ever again.” As we sat in my room, it began to pour outside. I reached out and held her hand. The warmth of her skin was comforting to me. I began to talk again, “No matter what happened between my parents, I will always have you, Ashley.” That caused her to be startled. As she looked down at my head in her lap I smiled at her.
“Spencer, I want to tell you something.” She began. “I’ve only known you for a few days, and as short as that is I was wondering: Do you want to go out? Like on a real date?”
“Ashley, are you actually asking me to do a normal date with you? I would love to.” I responded as A massive grin stretched from one of my ears to the other. We decided that we should sneak out of the house and make a run through the rain for the car. “Where to?” I asked her happily.
“It’s a surprise!” We drove for about 15 minutes to pull up to a restaurant I had never seen before.
“What’s Wildfire’s?” I asked her curiously.
“You’ll see…” She responded simply and continued inside. Once we made our way into the restaurant, I was amazed at what I was. The place was made out of dark wood with candles as the only source of light. It would have looked like a normal restaurant, but there were small flower pedals scattered around the floor, no one but us where there, and the entire armada of waiters were waiting on our sole order. She had rented the whole place out!
“You were prepared?” I asked astonished, and gave her a giant bear hug. Once we were seated, we placed our orders and engaged in a conversation about who liked each other more. Our food came in record time, we both ordered a steak. She had prime rib, and I had T-bone. The meal was absolutely amazing, just like the whole night. When we were done eating, she refused to let me see the bill before we left. I knew it must’ve been enormous.
As we pulled into my driveway, I managed to say to her “Thank you for-” before she pulled me into the most passionate kiss I’d ever experienced. As I broke the kiss I finished “-the meal. And that too.” After giving her one last kiss, I got out of the car and went to the door, stopping at the steps to turn around and smile at her. After the wonderful night, it was time to head back into reality.
I turned the knob only to be bombarded with concerned yells from my mom. “Where have you been, it’s 11:30, past your curfew. For once, however, I didn’t care. I had found my rock, Ashley, and for once in my life, nothing else mattered. And I’ve never been more certain of my future in my life…
