Symptoms of Love – (Chapter: 15)

Christine stood at the Carlin door with every bit of strength she had.  After hearing of the lengths that Spencer had gone to regain the love of her daughter, it had become a catalyst for her courage to regain Paula’s.    Before walking to her door, she thought of how much she craved their love over the years.   She thought of their reunion and how right they were together.

Paula finally let herself go.   As Christine lay underneath her, it was like a dream come true.  Wrapping her arms tightly around her, Paula looked into her eyes whispering how much she missed this, whispering how much she missed them, whispering how many years she had regretted ever leaving her that night, just to return to Arthur.  Arthur never pleased her like Christine.  His only successful feat was her children.  She loved her children dearly and would never change that.  But feeling Christine’s body tremble like the first time she’d ever approached her and kissing her again, it was more than she’d ever needed. Yes, she remembered, it was not Christine that introduced her to this world.  It had been Paula introducing Christine.  This one time thing had been the lie she told herself to try and make it acceptable.  Paula was the one with more experience yet the most internal strife about it.

Christine inhaled for the deepest breath of her life.  She didn’t have the intentions of hurting her or her family.  She just couldn’t let the life she wanted pass her by twice.  She had to at least try and hope that Paula’s love for her was strong enough.

“Paula, I’m sorry that it’s so late, but I had to come.  I had to come when my nerves were at their strongest.”

Paula felt her heart drop, but she was confused as to if it was Christine’s gesture and her love for her or from her fear about what her family was about to figure out.

“Paula!  What the fuck is going on? Why is that dyke here?  Is she here for you?”  Arthur shouted.

Glen and Clay had heard the stories their father had told them about Christine and how she tried to hit on their mother back in college and how he had been triumphant over that little faux pas in life.  They were not exactly prepared for the reverse to be true.
