“So you are back to Cali sooner than I expected. I thought you were going to spend more time at home since you finished early in Italy?” I asked.

“Yeah…I was, but I realized the one thing I wanted to come back for was here.” Jena said.

“Spencer?” I asked. Jena nodded. I sighed. She was too little, too late. Jena had a hard time coming to terms with her sexuality. She had always gravitated towards women. But her fear of being shut out by the rest of the family always made her second guess herself. She had second guessed with Spencer and lost her.

“I told mom and dad.” she said softly. “I mean it took me so long to come to terms with it myself. I couldn’t back out again.”

“Oh, Na why didn’t you wait till I was with you?” I asked.

“I don’t know Kay…I just knew I couldn’t come back to school with out telling them.” she said.

“How did it go? They haven’t called me freaking out.” I said with a smile.

“Not too bad. Dad was really cool. Mom thought it was because I had spent a year drinking to much vino in Italy.” she replied with a smirk.  I laughed.

“Don’t worry. They will come around. Just give them time.” I said gently. “I still love the hell out of you even though you have managed to be a real bitch lately”

She was my twin, and yes we had that intense bond that everyone always asks twins about. I loved her in a way that I could love nobody or anything else…but god damn she pissed me off sometimes. She was gently rubbing her cheek that was sporting my hand print outline. All my anger I had pent up from so many thing came out in that hit. I was ashamed that I had hit her. She didn’t deserve that…even after all she had done. I let out a deep breath.

“Jena, look, I am sorry I hit you. I had no excuse for that, but what you said about Spencer and I was out of line…especially in front of Ashley.” I said softly. She nodded and finished wiping her cheeks dry of her tears.

“Spencer and I have never been anything but friends. You got all the gay genes…must have been what made your eyes blue.” I joked. I saw her smile a bit.

“I really have made a mess of things, haven’t I?” she asked her voice cracking.

“Yeah. You did a bang up job of it baby sis.” I said in a stern voice looking directly at her. She averted her eyes. Sometimes the 7 minutes that separated us seemed like 7 years. “I mean you just disappeared to Italy with out a care to what you did to Spencer and I. Where did all your anger come from…what did we do to you? I mean you were still mad enough at me that you felt you had to sleep with my boyfriend this summer!”

Jena’s head snapped back up to look at me at the last statement.

“Justin told you?” she whispered her face draining of color.

“Yeah…not long after he got back from visiting you. You know why he told me? He wanted me to talk to you because you weren’t answering his calls. Jesus, MY fucking boyfriend was using me to try to get to you!” I said sadly. Justin was a jerk. I didn’t feel remorse at all that he had cheated on me and that we broke up. The part that hurt was that my own sister would go behind my back.

“Oh God, Kaylen. I never meant to hurt you…either of you. Does Spencer know about Justin and me?’ Jena asked.

I shook my head. “No I told her that we broke up after he wouldn’t come to visit me in Maine and that he had slept with some girl from one of our classes. She was finally to the point of getting over you and I didn’t want to bring anything back up.”

Jena flopped down on the bench and put her head in her hands. “I want her back Kaylen.”

“She’s not yours to have Jena.” I said quckly.

I grabbed her hand and pulled her off the bench. “Come on, let’s go home…we have a lot to talk about.”
