Taking the Long Way – (Chapter: 4: Back to California)
“Well Grams I better get going.” I said after 2 straight hours of yakking. “I need to unpack the truck and get settled before I meet Kaylen on campus.”
“Ok dear. Have fun and tell Kaylen hello. Leave me your cell number again so that I can track you down if I have to!” she said with a smile.
It didn’t take to long to get the studio settled back in. It was just one big open room with the kitchen and living room blending together and there was an enclosed bath in one corner. The bedroom was a cool loft over the living room half so it gave me a little more privacy and a lot more space. I loved having the place all to myself. No hassle with roommates and most of all rent. My grandma had been very gracious in never charging me rent, as long as I helped her keep up her yard and patio. I figured I got a pretty good deal. The only down side was that campus was so far away.
I finished hooking my wireless router to the cable modem I had installed a couple years ago. It was one of the few utilities I insisted on paying as my grandma wasn’t really a huge internet guru, but I found it essential. I hung a couple more pictures up that were taken during the summer. My favorites are one of me squirting Glen with Mom’s garden hose while he sleeping in our hammock. It was hysterical…although I did suffer the pay backs. The other favorite was of me and Chance, a horse that belonged to a client. I am standing with my back against his big shoulder and he has neck wrapped around with his soft muzzle in my hands. It is the equivalent of a horse hug. I have a small smile and a far away look on my face. My mom must have sneaked the shot. I know exactly what thoughts were going through my mind when that picture was taken. They had everything to do with an unknown brunette girl.
With the final touches finished on the studio I showered, dressed and grabbed the essentials for an overnight stay just in case Kaylen and I went out. I was jazzed up on the drive to Davis, I was excited to see Kaylen and get the year started. It was going to be a tough one, but I was up for the challenge.

definatly not bad. I still am wondering how ur gonna throw Ashley into all this. I remember I messed up by bringing her in to the story using only a couple paragraphs. That was my 1st book, so don’t make my mistakes. Use a whole cha[ter to introduce them. PMS!
“Bummer… well lets go bar hopping anyway!”…..LOL….loved it. U’ve trapped me with your story…PMS, thanks!!
