The Agent – (Chapter: 49 ways to say I care)
I watched as she stopped rather suddenly and turned around, only her head sticking through the door. Her eyes were now displaying something I didn’t recognize. She spoke so softly I could barely make out her words. “You should’ve killed me. You really should’ve pulled that trigger. Because now…Now I feel dead. I feel nothing. The love I had in me? It’s all gone. I’m a corpse.”
And with that, the door slammed.
I checked my watch. It was 4:30 a.m, and there was still no sign of Spencer. My mind kept wandering to the worst possible scenario. I had images of her lying dead in some gutter or, worse yet, being tortured by an agency member. I was so tired and my body still ached, but I couldn’t fall asleep. Not with Spencer still out there. I let out a sigh. I had to find her.
There was a bar at the bottom of the hotel. I figured she’d be there. I cursed myself for not coming out sooner to look for her, but I knew she needed some time alone. I walked into the dimly lit room, my eyes scanning the area. There was no sign of Spencer. This really wasn’t good. I walked over to the barman.
“Hello. I’m looking for someone. A friend with blonde hair, blue eyes, good figure…” I was blushing, suddenly shy of the way I described Spencer.
“Lady, you just described 90 of the girls who come in here.” I let out a deep breath.
Fuck.
“I really don’t know how else to describe her. She’s really attractive and her hair…” I trailed off because a further description wasn’t necessary. I could hear her giggling in the background. There was another voice with her. I was almost too afraid to turn around. I closed my eyes for a few seconds and turned my head. She’d just emerged from the bathroom and has holding hands with some girl. She was drunk and could hardly stand up straight. They were now at a table, giggling, flirting and kissing. I walked towards them, pausing as I reached the table. I was unsure of what to say.
“Spencer…” She wouldn’t acknowledge me.
I tried again. “Spence!” This time it worked. Spencer and the mystery woman broke apart. I let my eyes wander up and down the woman, taking in her features. I was surprised to see a shocking resemblance between her and myself. They were both looking at me now, waiting for me to say something. I ignored the woman and looked at Spencer.
