The Agent – (Chapter: It was me…)

Fuck, it was too late, the brother had us. Well, he had Spencer. He was pulling her away from me. I made it into the car. I was in the driver’s seat, and he was dragging Spencer away from me. The cops were right there. I had to go. It was breaking my heart that I had to leave her behind.

I slammed the car door closed and started driving away. I don’t know what made me do it, but I looked back at them surprised by what I saw. Spencer, she was running after the car. I pushed the brakes as hard as possible, almost getting whip lash. The door opened and Spencer was in. I sighed a sigh of relief and started driving away, the cops following closely behind.

“What is going on?” Spencer finally spoke. We were bouncing around in the car, I was swerving from side to side trying to avoid cars. I couldn’t speak now, I just needed to get us as far from the cops as possible.

“I’ll explain later.” I continued to drive ignoring the pain I was in, ignoring the fact that all I wanted to do was pass out from everything that had just happened. I looked in the rearview mirror. There were four cop cars now. This was hopeless we were going to die anyway. I was tempted to stop, to surrender, to let them do whatever they wanted to do to me as long as they found a safe place for Spencer. Then it happened all at once. My eye catching a black Xterra in the rearview mirror and feeling Spencer’s arm on my leg giving it a squeeze while her words echoed through the car.

“Drive faster.” Now wasn’t the time, but I felt my face light up. I felt myself smiling mostly because of the hand that was still on my leg but also because he was here right behind me. Aiden. He’d come to rescue us. At the back of my mind I knew he would, but I could never be sure. I saw it happen in slow motion: A hand grenade being thrown from his window followed by an explosion and then they were gone in the distance. No more cop cars chasing after us.
