Chapter Four – Aiden and the Blockbuster

    ~

The car ride home is silent. Why? Why had her father tried to kill her? She had never done anything to him, so why?

Although she was still in denial, she understood.

She finally realized what crazy meant.

    Six Years Later

Ashley stares up at Spencer and takes a long drag from a cigarette. She smiles as she outlines Spencer’s face. Of course Glen is in the background recklessly throwing around various items, but that doesn’t change the atmosphere between Ashley and Spencer.

Then suddenly it’s too much. Spencer can no longer hold a straight face and Ashley’s drawing is ruined, not that she minds, she loves it when Spencer smiles. The blonde leans forward and as if they are on repeat Ashley flips open her lighter and watches the flame as Spencer takes a deep inhale from the butt the cigarette.

Yes, they’ve become those kids, the ‘cool’ kids. You know the type. They’re the ones that seem like they don’t give a fuck. The people you always said you hated but secretly longed to be best friends with.

Ashley turns her attention away from Spencer and onto Glen. "Glen I’m bored shitless, what’s up already?"

"Yeah what are you looking for anyway?" Aiden interjects.

    "Shut up lard ass."

You see they’re so cool they even have their own personal punching bag. Don’t pretend like you don’t know how it works. Every group has an odd man out. No one really knows how or why this one guy has wormed his way into their lives, but he’s always there. The friend that no one likes, but can never seem to get rid of. Aiden is lucky enough to hold that title. He’s the fat, annoying, awkward friend that everyone loves to fuck with. The guy every other social circle feels bad for, but would never even consider taking in.

"And you hold your fucking horses." Glen continues to tear apart his father’s basement as he speaks. "It’s here somewhere."

Uncomfortably Spencer shifts. "We should go soon. If dad catches us smoking down here we’re dead."

"So let’s go." Ashley says as she pulls herself from the couch.

Ashley knows just how cruel their father can be. She knows she needs to do her part to ensure he won’t have a reason to fuck with her, at least not for tonight.
